Food Service Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for all food service and the overall success of the LECOM School of Dental Medicine Cafeteria. Daily oversight for providing customers with prompt and excellent service while maintaining a clean and comfortable environment in accordance with LECOM’s standard of excellence.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establish and maintain effective working relationships; Acts with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of LECOM; Ensure that the highest standards of food preparation and presentation are maintained to the required standards at all times; Take full responsibility for food service while supervising employees; Fully comply with all Health, Safety and Food Hygiene regulations; Oversee all food ordering as required throughout the week, working within a fixed budget; Control food costs while maintaining correct and economical use of all food items and waste at all times; Create monthly menus; Ensure all kitchen equipment and facilities are kept and maintained in safe and good working order at all times; Assist in the set-up, take down and cleaning of the kitchen according to procedure on a daily basis and as required; Maintain a clean and tidy environment at all times in the preparation areas; Be an active and supportive team member, contributing in a constructive manner and treating all team members and customers with fairness and courtesy; Provide excellent customer service, serving customers promptly, courteously and with a smile; Ensure that food and drink served to customers is of a consistently high standard and is well presented; Assists with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed; Enforce and oversee LECOM operational policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, those for cash handling and safety and security, to ensure the safety of all employees; Maintains regular and punctual attendance; and Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal; Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast paced environment; Confident in handling ambiguity and fluid situations and have an abundance of common sense and pragmatism; Ability to work with individuals at all levels in the organization and throw equal enthusiasm behind the more routine, hands-on activities, as well as those requiring a higher profile; Organizational skills; must be accurate and attentive to detail; Ability to maintain an established work schedule; assess and prioritize multiple tasks and demands; Interpersonal skills to include tact and diplomacy; Organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through; Strong computer literacy and accurate data entry skills; Maintain confidentiality of work related information and materials; Establish and maintain effective working relationships; Ability to learn quickly; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed; Flexibility to accept other duties needed/assigned for the department needs; Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations; Ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM; and Ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and experience equivalent to: Education: High School diploma and/or equivalent required. Undergraduate or Associates degree in associated field preferred. Experience: Previous restaurant / food service and customer service experience of two to four (2-4) years’ preferred. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality, with or without reasonable accommodation; Meet Café operating policies and standards, including, but not limited to, providing quality beverages and food products, cash handling and Café safety and security, with or without reasonable accommodation; Engage with and understand customers, including, but not limited to, discovering and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication; and Prepare food and beverages to standard recipes or customized for customers, including, but not limited to, recipe changes such as temperature, quantity of ingredients or substituted ingredients.
