If so, please keep reading… ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY As the company’s newest Landscape Manager, your primary goal is to make sure our clients are thrilled with the work your team does. The right person for this position is someone with extensive landscaping, hardscaping and/or horticultural experience; someone who has led a bilingual English/Spanish‑speaking team and who wants to serve as “La Jefa” or “El Jefe.” Ideally, she/they/he has worked on horticulture, landscape and hardscape related projects in Northern California and understands the equipment and crew needed to plant, maintain or remove a wide variety of species ranging from shrubs, hedges, and screens to perennials, grasses, flowers and trees – and how to build walkways, walls, retaining walls, etc. Our new Landscape Manager will be an experienced mentor; someone who genuinely enjoys coaching, training and celebrating the growth and success of their staff. Based in Berkeley, CA, we service commercial, residential and public works projects from Mendocino to Monterey, and from San Francisco to Sacramento. What makes us unique? Aside from having the staff and equipment to take on tree work of any size, we recycle 100% of material removed from job sites at our own Green Waste Recycle Yard. We also mill logs into dimensional lumber, build outdoor furniture from logs, create wood chips, mulch and electricity from mulch in cooperation with All Power Labs. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS Industry experience. 5+ years in horticulture and/or landscaping, ideally as a Landscape Manager or Foreman/Foreperson. People management skills and experience. Natural mentor/trainer who enjoys helping others advance careers. Provides praise, constructive criticism, values accountability and optimism. Strong computer literacy. Proficiency in MS Office, calendar management, clerical tasks, and ability to learn billing and time‑keeping software. Creates own estimates/bids and delivers them to clients. Communication skills. Effective and professional communication with clients, colleagues and vendors, including email in both English and Spanish (bilingual preferred). Customer‑facing experience. Worked with clients, homeowners, contractors, sub‑contractors and established rapport. Hardworking. Available by phone as needed, especially during fire season. Likable. Positive relationships with clients and former co‑workers. Physically fit and able to hustle. Work brisk pace 6+ hours per day, ascend/descend stairs, navigate forests, vineyards or wilderness, lift equipment up to 40 pounds onto truck beds. Sense of humor. Strong EQ to lighten stressful projects. ABW / Always Be Working. Moves quickly, completes work, tracks tasks/daily to‑dos, knows how to keep team running efficiently and request assistance. Clean California driver’s license. Drives company vehicle to job sites, experience hauling a trailer a plus. Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Local. Lives within a 45‑minute commute of the Green Waste Recycle Yard, Richmond, CA. Arrives by 6:00 a.m. BONUS POINTS FOR Bilingual English/Spanish. Knowledge of residential irrigation systems (multiple manifold systems). Hands‑on hardscaping experience: rock walls, walkways, retaining walls, gravel pathways. General construction experience (build decks, electrical wiring basics). Experience using CAD or design software used in landscape industry. Experience with Microsoft Project or other scheduling software for tree care projects. A better than average memory. College degree (construction management, accounting, business). RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES Manage. Serve as team’s point of contact for clients, foremen, billing, arborists, recruiting, scheduler, Director of Field Operations or GM, and President/CEO. Line crew out daily: meet each morning to outline the day’s work. Produce/ distribute work production/progress reports. Mentor and train staff; provide weekly positive feedback and determine lessons when projects overrun. Train staff on plant identification, pruning, fertilization practices, and plant health care solutions (including low‑toxicity pesticides). Lead safety meetings and serve as point‑person for field training. Sell: visit client properties to develop project estimates, maintenance contracts, and bids. Learn about East Bay fire hazard zones, create bids for upcoming projects, and work with Plant Health Care Specialist to stay current on non‑toxic solutions. Walk clients through solutions to landscaping issues and propose proactive plant health care measures. Collaborate with HR and people: interview crew candidates, write performance reviews, coach team members, handle HR or payroll issues, train crew on time‑keeping application. Collaborate with Accounting/Billing team on billing efficiency. Brainstorm with Marketing. Take on special projects with President/CEO as needed. WHO SHOULD NOT APPLY Individuals without landscaping, hardscaping or horticultural experience. Anyone living farther than 45 minutes from 2550 Garden Tract Rd., Richmond, CA. Late nighters – start time is 6:15 a.m., must arrive by 6:00 a.m. and may need to hold early phone meetings. Those without a current and clean California driver’s license or transportation to remote sites. Anyone uncomfortable using a porta‑potty as their primary restroom. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Base salary of $105,000.00 to $120,000.00 salary based on experience. Company vehicle, gas card, phone, laptop, and gear. Immediate 401(k) participation, worker’s compensation and auto insurance. After 90 days: Medical, dental and optical insurance paid at 100%. 5 paid holidays. 5 paid sick days.
