School Bus DriverThe Aspen School District seeks School Bus Drivers. This position is in the Transportation department and reports to the Director of Transportation. It is classified as a classified full-time non-exempt/hourly position with a 9-month contract period (178 days with some variance depending on the year).For the 2026–2027 academic year, all new hires are eligible for a $1,500.00 signing bonus. This recruitment incentive will be prorated based on the individual's FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) status.ASD offers district-funded employee and dependent health benefits including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to benefit-eligible employees. Other benefits include (as eligible): paid leave, CO PERA (pension plan) enrollment with district contribution, TSA options, free transportation for employees from Carbondale to Aspen, employee assistance program, wellness program (can be used for highly reduced or free ski pass), and supplemental insurance (i.e. cancer, disability, etc).Position SummaryResponsible for the safe operation and basic maintenance of a vehicle transporting students to and from schools or school-authorized events, in accordance with policies and procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to assuring the safe operations surrounding the transportation of all riders; student management and discipline; maintaining schedules and route reference materials; and communication with parents/guardians, students and school officials.Position ResponsibilitiesBus Driver Responsibilities:Report to the terminal at required times and maintain assigned scheduled times with an emphasis on safety.Operate, inspect and report defects of transportation fleet vehicles in all weather and road conditions.Provide support for students with disabilities, including, but not limited to the proper use of transportation equipment, attend to hygienic needs and behavioral challenges, monitor medical conditions and utilize specialized communication tools.Communicate with district representatives, parents/guardians and community members.Maintain assigned vehicle cleanliness and route guides.Be familiar with, adhere to and enforce all regulations, policies and procedures for school bus operation and student transportation safety and conduct.Monitor and manage behavior of all riders using management strategies and student discipline while monitoring for suspected child abuse, harassment, bullying and medical conditions.Identify and respond to emergency situations on the bus which may include the administration of standard First Aid, body fluid clean-up and evacuation procedures.Accept responsibility for and ensure the safe transportation of students and that they are all accounted for after each run, route or trip.Complete and submit mandatory paperwork to applicable departments and AgenciesProvide input to dispatch and supervisors concerning the effectiveness and accuracy of assigned routes in respect to design, student stops, safety issues, time and student information.Maintain professional communication and demeanor with all district employees, students and community members while being responsible for a safe and collaborative environment on the bus.Communicate on a two-way radio system in accordance with Federal Communications Commission regulations.Successfully complete all required courses, evaluations and meetings.Collaborate in the planning of bus evacuation plans and student management techniques on assigned routes.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of:Vehicle operationDemonstrated skills with interpersonal relations and teamworkBasic mathDemonstrated organizational skillsAdvanced skills in cooperation and communication with supervisors and co-workersAbility to:Communicate effectively in the English language both in writing and orallyBilingual preferred (Spanish/English)Provide excellent customer service and public relationsThink critically and solve problemsUnderstand and follow oral and written instructionsFlexible in daily scheduling of job responsibilitiesManage confidentiality in all aspects of the jobManage multiple priorities with frequent interruptionsWork independently and in a team environmentMinimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalentCommercial Drivers' Class B License with P and S endorsements with no restrictions of Air Brakes; must acquire within 2 monthsDepartment of Transportation Medical Examiners' Certification; required at entrySubmit a current Motor Vehicle Record (Must acquire within 2 monthsCurrent Crisis Prevention Intervention or Safety Care certification; obtain within 90 daysFirst Aid/CPR certification- to be obtained within 90 days of employmentValid Colorado driver's licenseChild Safety Restraint Systems for School Buses- acq VR).
