Job Description Job Description Exciting Opportunity in Cytogenetic Pathology at Our Organization in Pittsburgh, PA The Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking Clinical Laboratory Geneticists for positions as Assistant Professor (up to 5 years of experience), Associate Professor (more than 5 years of experience), or Professor (+10 years of experience) Laboratory Director. These roles will be appointed within the UPMC Cytogenetics Laboratories. Key Responsibilities The main duties will involve analyzing and interpreting test results, preparing and reviewing final reports, and conducting karyotyping, FISH, microarray, and OGM analyses on oncological, prenatal, and postnatal samples. The Laboratory Director will support the Medical Director in overseeing the operations related to specimen handling, testing, and reporting, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality for clients and patients. Working in a cutting-edge academic laboratory, the selected candidate will be expected to develop and validate in-house assays for oncology and other clinically relevant applications. Additional tasks include maintaining standard operating procedure manuals, implementing quality control practices, and guiding cytogenetics technical staff in proficiency testing programs as mandated by regulatory bodies (CLIA, CAP). The Laboratory Director will collaborate closely with the Division of Molecular & Genomic Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and will be involved in the education of Pathology and OB/GYN residents/fellows, as well as training LGG fellows through the ACGME-accredited program. Innovation is a key focus, and we encourage the candidate to engage in publishing, collaboration, and the development of new tests, with departmental and institutional support for teaching and research initiatives. The individual will hold a full-time faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and participate in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan. Qualifications: Applicants should possess an MD/DO and/or PhD in Biology, and must be ABMGG-Certified or eligible for certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) or Cytogenetics. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in cytogenetic testing of oncology specimens and those who have developed new molecular and cytogenetic tests, including Optical Genome Mapping.
