Senior Counsel, Trade ComplianceThis is a great opportunity for an experienced global trade compliance attorney to join a multidisciplinary Global Litigation & Compliance team to help lead implementation and sustainment for Applied Materials’ due diligence program. Based in Santa Clara, CA, Austin, TX or Washington, DC this will be a critical role reporting into the Senior Director, Trade Compliance. This Senior Counsel, Trade Compliance will lead the company's trade due diligence and restricted party screening programs within the company’s global trade function and work horizontally with key business stakeholders.In this role, you will be responsible for:Setting the strategy and process for due diligence of customers and suppliers.Overseeing the company's restricted party screening program.Leading the team that performs due diligence work for global trade.Providing critical programmatic support for trade compliance organization enhancements throughout the global enterpriseDesigning and advising on enhancements for trade compliance policies, and operating procedures.Developing and delivering trade compliance training for a variety of audiencesAssist in M&A and joint venture risk assessments, due diligence and integration plansAssist in trade compliance-related internal investigationsUndertaking special projects and supporting other compliance program initiativesMajor Areas of ResponsibilityAs an in-house attorney focused on export controls and customs and import regulations, you will advise on customer and supplier trade due diligence. You will evaluate due diligence information and provide advise on risk mitigation. This senior counsel position will work closely with peers in developing and enhancing both US and non-US compliance processes as geopolitics continue to influence global trade strategy and business for the semiconductor industry. You will coordinate with external legal counsel, as appropriate, and provide legal advice to the company’s global trade function as well as business units and departments. You will have frequent contact with internal stakeholders throughout the company’s global operations, including executives. QualificationsJuris Doctorate degree and a minimum of 6-8 years of experience in advising multinational businesses on trade compliance matters, including US export controls, sanctions programs,Ability to work both independently and within a team, including leading a team, and ability to gain the trust of business stakeholders to achieve a desired objectiveProblem Solving: Proactively identifies and solves complex problems, thinking beyond existing solutions and frameworksExcellent communication skills: Ability to clearly articulate and visually present complex legal advice for senior executives; excellent written work product (compliance policies, procedures, training)Passion for compliance work!Desired QualificationsIn-house experience in the semiconductor industry strongly preferredSubject matter expertise with non-US export and import regulatory regimesPrior experience giving advice on due diligence risk mitigation strategiesLanguage skills (Mandarin) are highly desirableAdditional InformationTime Type:Full timeEmployee Type:Assignee / RegularTravel:Yes, 10% of the TimeRelocation Eligible:YesThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
