Lead Behavior Intervention Specialist – STAR Academy 26/27 SY (Job ID: 2207) Openings as of 6/17/2026 Position Type: Supplemental / Lead Behavior Intervention Specialist Date Posted: 6/10/2026 General Description Under the direction of the Director of STAR Academy the Lead Behavior Intervention Specialist will provide assistance to incoming Behavior Intervention Specialist staff by providing them with the required training and support using a systematic approach in order to expedite the ramping period. The Lead will model appropriate techniques and strategies, improve the BIS employee experience and retention, and provide best-in-class support to students with emotional disabilities. The Lead will also provide assistance to children who are in an alternative program for emotional and behavioral problems. Qualifications Minimum 2 years experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled/disordered students in a school, mental health, or hospital setting (preferred). Knowledge of child development concepts and practices. Must have a passing score on the WorkKeys Paraprofessional assessment and a high school diploma, an AA degree, or 60 college credits. Recommendation form completed by the Director of STAR Academy. Duties and Responsibilities Train behavior intervention specialists on behavioral strategies and approaches to maintain safety. Train and model systematic approaches to all staff. Communicate problem‑solving techniques to staff. Communicate with staff to provide ongoing support to the classroom environment. Work intensively with students who have been unable to function effectively in the classroom and immediately deal with individual student behavioral/emotional problems. Communicate reality‑based problem‑solving techniques to students. Suggest and recommend ongoing strategies for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students. Assist in developing and administering educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students. Assist teachers in the classroom by interacting with students who are disruptive, off task, or exhibiting other emotional needs that interfere with their progress. Prepare or assist in the preparation of logs, reports, files, reviews, etc. Escort children to the bus, time‑out, the nurse's office, and across campus. Facilitate decision‑making and communication between students and teachers. Follow District policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner. Complete and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification. Complete and maintain First Aid and CPR training certification. Perform other duties as assigned.
