Job Title: Registered Nurse - Critical Care Profession: Nursing Specialty: ICU Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 3 years’ ICU experience License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred Must-Have: Vent/trach management, invasive line management (arterial lines, central venous pressure monitoring), drains, chest tubes, Foley catheter management, post-surgical recovery, post-catheterization experience, continuous venovenous hemofiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy. Description: This position is for a critical care unit. The facility is a Level III Trauma Center and a Level II NICU. The unit consists of 17 beds. The average patient census is determined based on daily patient admissions and outcomes. General patient types include: sepsis, alcohol withdrawal, intravenous drug abuse, overdose, suicidal ideation, delirium, gastrointestinal bleeds, strokes, acute renal failure, COVID-19, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Surgical patient types include: general surgery, open abdominal surgery, orthopedic procedures, ENT, and Client. Cardiac and vascular patients include: femoral-popliteal bypass surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting, endovascular aortic repair, valve surgeries, post-catheterization care (radial and femoral approach), abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs, and amputations. Complex neuro patients are not included in this position. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2 based on patient acuity. Support within the department includes: two CNAs during the day shift and one at night. A receptionist is available during the day shift. There is a charge nurse who may have occasional patient assignments. An ICU Supervisor is present Monday through Friday. Phlebotomists are available for peripheral IV draws. An educator is on staff. Respiratory therapists are available 24/7. Clientists and intensivists are available around the clock. An ICU-specific pharmacist works during the day shift. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, preferred. IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are utilized. Unit-specific equipment includes continuous renal replacement therapy. If staff need to float, it will be within their scope of practice and below. Floating may include intermediate units with a 1:3 patient ratio, medical-surgical units, emergency department boarding with a 1:4 ratio, and observation units with a 1:4 ratio. Travelers are the first to float as needed. Weekend rotation is required every other week. Holiday expectations include one holiday per contract. Requests for time off need to be approved through management. Shift times include both day and night options. Schedules are created in four-week increments. Scrub colors are flexible, but specific designs are prohibited. Attendance is monitored, and excessive sick calls may lead to a discussion about the contract.
