About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Critical Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year in related nursing specialty preferred License: RN License in state of Texas or compact Certifications: BLS required (AHA only) Must-Have: ACLS required (AHA only) Description: This position involves caring for high-acuity ICU patients. Patients may include those who are intubated, sedated, and require chest tube management. Continuous critical care monitoring is essential. The competent nurse practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of situations. Provides routine and complex care, with an ability to formulate long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop skills to cope with and manage clinical contingencies. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates tasks to other care providers to help manage clinical situations. Meets expectations of applicable competencies. Consistent with professional standards, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, interventions, and evaluation for assigned patients. Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families. Administers medications and treatments according to appropriate protocols. Monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments. Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care given. Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers. Identifies issues and resources for patient care.
