Morgantown, WV | Full-Time | $65,000-$85,000/Year | Accounting & Finance


A well-established and growing organization in Morgantown, WV is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join its accounting and finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working with numbers, analyzing financial information, solving problems, and ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date.


Salary: $65,000-$85,000 per year, based on experience.


The Staff Accountant will support accounting operations across multiple business units, with significant responsibility for general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, financial reporting, and financial analysis .

What You'll Do

General Ledger & Account Reconciliation

• Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and balance sheet accounts across multiple business units
• Research and resolve account discrepancies, variances, and unusual transactions
• Prepare and maintain accurate account reconciliations and supporting workpapers
• Review accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness
• Maintain organized financial records and accounting documentation
• Research and assist with complex accounting transactions

Month-End Close & Journal Entries

• Prepare and post month-end journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
• Assist with the monthly and quarterly financial close process
• Analyze account balances and investigate variances
• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for month-end close
• Ensure assigned accounting activities are completed accurately and on schedule
• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Assist with monthly and quarterly financial reporting
• Prepare financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting reports
• Assist with financial statement preparation
• Analyze financial information and account activity
• Provide accurate accounting information and reports to internal teams
• Support reporting requirements across multiple business units

Audit & Accounting Support

• Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits
• Respond to accounting questions and research financial transactions
• Work closely with accounting and administrative teams
• Maintain accurate and organized financial records
• Assist with special accounting projects as needed

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures
• Help streamline and automate repetitive accounting tasks
• Support consistent accounting practices across business units
• Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and reporting

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2-4 years of accounting experience
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and GAAP
• Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close
• Experience preparing and posting journal entries and accruals
• Experience with financial reporting and analysis
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with spreadsheets
• Experience with accounting software, ERP systems, or financial management systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent organization and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with an accounting team
• Self-motivated, dependable, and committed to continuous improvement
