Overview Licensed Practical Nurse 4 Airway Heights Corrections Center, Airway Heights, WA Hourly salary : $33.86-$45.57 On-Call (Various shifts/hours available) The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4) for the Airway Heights Corrections Center located in Airway Heights, WA. Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse 4 supports the Department’s mission to improve public safety by assisting in the implementation of the nursing process and delivering services to promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment of various health conditions. Responsibilities Practice nursing safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code: monitor and collect data about health status; assist in developing nursing diagnoses and outcomes; contribute to the plan of nursing care; carry out the plan of care; determine when care is beyond the LPN scope and seek direction from the RN; analyze and evaluate service delivery and revise the plan as necessary; employ safety techniques for lifting and moving loads. Delegate and assign tasks to other staff after considering patient needs and safety; supervise and evaluate delegated tasks and report outcomes to the RN or supervising provider. Self-evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct; ensure continuity of patient care through communication with appropriate personnel. Provide effective communication and documentation: communicate with offenders, families, health care personnel, custody, and institutional staff; document clinical findings and actions; protect health record confidentiality; maintain accurate patient care records; coordinate information for community-based care; complete incident reports as directed; respond to requests from offenders and staff. Administer medication: oversee the medication area and patient care; participate in medication lines and administration; process medication orders; provide patient education and prepare release medications. Provide competent patient care: lead clinical activities in the treatment room; participate in treatments and dressing changes; monitor vital signs; assist with minor procedures; evaluate and carry out orders; provide emergency medical care, including CPR. On-Call Nurses : Be available to work all shifts (day, swing and graveyard) including weekends and holidays. To qualify for benefits upon hire, be willing to work 10 shifts a month. Provide written availability by the 10th of each month for the following month’s coverage. Be willing to complete a paid three-week correctional worker core training Monday–Friday from 8:00 to 4:30 pm. Qualifications Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Practical Nurse. OR an unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey. Two years experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Provider CPR. Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry, and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work. Other Requirements Requires respirator medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respirators per WA Industrial Safety standards. Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds (rarely up to 50 pounds; push up to 100 pounds). Foreign credentials must have a credential evaluation; refer to Wes or AICE for documentation. Candidate must have work authorization without sponsorship needs now or in the future.
