Surgical Assistant, Operating Room, Full-time, Second Shift

Location West Chester, OH, United States Qualifications High School Diploma/GED and completion of a formal surgical assisting program. Associate degree preferred. Must be certified in an approved Surgical Assistant program (e.g., CFA, SCS, CRNFA, RNFA, or PA‑C) within the first twelve months of employment. Certification requirement may be waived for associates hired before January 1, 2000 or at the discretion of the Vice President of Perioperative Services. BLS certification required; ACLS preferred. Minimum 1 year of experience. Responsibilities Clinical Patient Care Engage in population‑appropriate communication and provide clear instructions to patients/family. Assess and involve family/guardian in treatment and ongoing care. Recognize limitations, behavioral health issues, abuse or neglect, and cultural or psychological needs. Administer medications, operate equipment safely, and plan care based on population data. Surgical Assistant Skills Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology for all types of procedures. Assist the surgeon during procedures: handle instruments, suctioning, exposure/retraction, tissue handling, suturing, and wound/skin closure. Anticipate needs of patient and surgeon; maintain aseptic technique and sterile table/field. Assist with hemostasis, suctioning, exposure, retraction, and wound closure. Assume scrub role as needed and collaborate with the perioperative team. Assist RN in care plan development, assemble and organize Davinci robot trays, maintain par levels, and coordinate with Materials Management. Teach novice nurses basic operating room and scrub procedures. Assist with robotic cases, demonstrating dexterity and fine‑motor skills; competent in clipping and stapling under supervision. Surgical Environment Assist with operating room and sterile field preparation, instrumentation sterilization, and maintaining the OR environment. Patient Care / Safety Assist with positioning, skin preparation, acquisition of accessories, and equipment. Participate in patient safety measures, Universal Protocol, specimen identification, and documentation. Fulfill on‑call requirements. Safety and Environment Maintain a clean, safe, organized environment. Use supplies economically. Participate in OR turnovers and storage of extra supplies. Additional Duties Assist new staff orientation, decision making, problem solving. Participate in surgical lab activities and other assigned duties. #J-18808-Ljbffr UC Health
