The City of Largo is looking for a skilled and dedicated Golf Course Mechanic to maintain and repair light-duty gasoline and diesel-powered equipment used to care for our municipal golf course and landscaped city facilities. This position is vital to ensuring that our equipment runs smoothly and our greens stay pristine.

What You'll Do:

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of turf, grounds, and light-duty equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues.
• Maintain records of repairs, inspections, and service schedules.
• Ensure all equipment is operating safely and in compliance with established guidelines.
• Work independently under general supervision from Greens Superintendent.

Salary: $21.62 hourly rate

Emergency Response Status: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) and two (2) years experience in the maintenance of pumps, valves, motors and/or controls for lawn mowers, tractors, weed eaters, etc.; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Valid Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the maintenance of small engines
• Ability to make inspections, perform trouble-shooting diagnosis, and repair small engines
• Read meters, service manuals, and charts accurately and maintain records
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Input, access, and retrieve data from a computer
• Skilled in the use and care of tools, materials, and equipment

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Work Environment: 10% inside a climate controlled building. 90% outside which may include driving.
• Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately one (1) hour per day, standing approximately six (6) hours per day, and walking approximately one (1) hour per day. The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 44 pounds, and occasionally lifting/carrying of objects weighing 45 pounds and over.
• Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand individuals on the phone and in person; enough to hear Revolutions Per Minute speeds on motors and any unusual noises coming from the equipment. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others in person, on the telephone, and while giving instructions for repair. Seeing: Ability to see internal parts of small engines, springs, bearings, fittings, and drive.
• Driving Requirements: Requires frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
• Technology: The work requires ability to operate telephones, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and/or laptop computers, calculators and all associated software.
• Other Machines: The work requires the ability to operate the following machines: mower lifts and tractors.
• Tools: The work requires proficiency with wrenches, files, grinders, floor jacks, welders, cutting torches, drills, screw drivers and other tools as required.
