Brooks Law Firm is seeking an Immigration Associate Attorney to join its growing immigration practice. The position may involve removal defense, detained representation, affirmative matters before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, business immigration, and federal litigation. The attorney will be assigned primarily to one or more established practice areas based on the candidate’s experience, skills, interests, and the needs of the firm. Although opportunities to collaborate across practice groups are available, attorneys generally work within defined teams and develop substantial expertise in their principal area of practice. We are looking for an attorney who can manage a significant caseload, communicate consistently with clients, and provide thoughtful advice on complex immigration matters. The position offers meaningful responsibility, strong support from attorneys and staff, and opportunities to work on sophisticated and potentially high-profile cases. Potential Areas of Practice Depending on the attorney’s primary assignment, responsibilities may include: Representing clients in detained and non-detained removal proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review. Handling bond hearings, custody matters, master calendar hearings, and individual merits hearings. Preparing affirmative immigration matters before USCIS, including family-based, humanitarian, adjustment, waiver, and naturalization cases. Advising employers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and foreign nationals on business and employment-based immigration matters. Responding to Requests for Evidence, Notices of Intent to Deny, Notices of Intent to Revoke, and other agency actions. Preparing clients for USCIS interviews, immigration court hearings, and other proceedings. Assisting with federal habeas petitions, petitions for review, emergency stay motions, mandamus actions, and Administrative Procedure Act challenges involving agency delay or wrongful denials. Researching and briefing emerging issues involving detention, due process, administrative law, agency authority, and federal court review. Responsibilities Manage an active caseload from initial strategy through resolution. Analyze complex immigration histories and advise clients regarding available options, risks, timing, and next steps. Maintain frequent, clear, and compassionate communication with clients and families. Draft petitions, applications, motions, briefs, declarations, agency responses, and client correspondence. Prepare clients and witnesses for interviews and hearings. Review and supervise work completed by paralegals and legal assistants. Coordinate with attorneys in other immigration practice groups when a matter presents overlapping issues. Meet court, agency, and internal deadlines while maintaining accurate case records. Use the firm’s case-management, document-automation, and communication systems effectively. Participate in case strategy meetings, training, and the continued development of firm practices and systems. Qualifications Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Admission in good standing to the bar of at least one U.S. state or territory. Ability to represent clients before USCIS and EOIR. Admission to the Massachusetts bar or another New England state bar is preferred. Approximately one to three years of immigration-law experience is preferred. Experience in removal defense, detained representation, affirmative immigration, business immigration, appeals, or federal litigation is valued. Excellent legal research, analysis, writing, and client-counseling skills. Ability to manage a substantial caseload and competing deadlines. Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and close attention to detail. Ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and manage client expectations. Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and administrative staff. Comfort with legal technology and modern case-management systems. Professional proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or another language is a plus but is not required. Candidates with less direct experience are encouraged to apply.
