Special Education Teacher – Middle School Inclusion & Self-Contained Classroom – New Mexico

Amergis Educational Staffing is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for a middle school opportunity in New Mexico for the upcoming school year.

This position offers a blend of self-contained instruction and inclusion support , allowing educators to work with students across a broad range of academic and behavioral needs. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting middle school students, implementing behavior plans, and modifying curriculum to help students achieve their IEP goals.

Position Details

• Start Date: September 7, 2026

• Duration: 38 Weeks

• Schedule: 37.5 Hours Per Week

• Pay: $48/hour local

• Travel Packages Available

Assignment Overview

The selected teacher will:

• Teach self-contained special education content classes

• Support students in inclusion settings alongside general education teachers

• Implement IEP goals and accommodations

• Modify curriculum and instructional materials based on student needs

• Support students with a wide range of learning, behavioral, and academic profiles

Students on the caseload may include:

• Students requiring significant curriculum modifications in a self-contained setting

• Students with average to high academic abilities who need behavioral supports and inclusion assistance

• Students with individualized behavior intervention plans

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement IEPs

• Provide specialized instruction and targeted interventions

• Support students in both self-contained and inclusion environments

• Implement behavior intervention plans and classroom accommodations

• Monitor student progress and maintain required documentation

• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers

• Participate in IEP and multidisciplinary team meetings

Qualifications

• Active New Mexico Special Education License required

• Experience working with middle school students preferred

• Experience implementing behavior plans preferred

• Strong collaboration, communication, and classroom management skills

• Ability to modify curriculum to meet diverse learning needs

The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12. The Special Education Teacher has a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs including special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultation with general education staff.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred

• Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations

• Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred

• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred

• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred

• State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred

• Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred

• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

• Current CPR if applicable

• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
