About The Job Location: Franklin Square Medical Center Departments: Women's Pavilion, ED Registration, Admitting and Transfer Center Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week Schedule: Evening Shift (4:00pm-12:30am) General Summary of Position: The Supervisor of Patient Access is responsible for registration points including, but not limited to, Same Day Surgery, Cancer Center, GI services, ancillary areas, Emergency Department, off‑site facilities, and hospital clinics. In collaboration with the Patient Access Multisite Manager, the Supervisor manages patient flow, inpatient placement, and assignment of patient status. The Supervisor maintains a professional and courteous demeanor to ensure a positive community image and promotes the highest standards of customer service. They direct, coordinate, and supervise the centralized Patient Access Department, ensure a positive patient experience, complete and accurate documentation, employee training, and adherence to key performance indicators and metrics. A successful Supervisor is mission‑oriented, engaged with associates and clinical leaders, and actively improves the patient and provider experience. They design, deploy, and train staff on workflows that incorporate clinician feedback into daily activities. A thorough knowledge of hospital, governmental, and corporate policies is required, as is the ability to follow through and be a credible partner. Primary Duties And Responsibilities Standardize best practices, recommend innovative approaches, policies, and procedures to continuously improve departmental efficiency and services. Collaborate with Patient Access Case Management and departmental leaders to establish workflow best practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and seek input from Nursing, Physician, and Administrative leaders. Develop standard metrics for performance based on patient access workflows and feedback from leaders and associates. Evaluate performance, conduct performance‑management planning, provide feedback to associates, perform random quality assessments, and develop and roll out an auditing tool for all associates. Document auditing results and address improvement opportunities in a timely manner. Manage and audit the registration process for inpatient, outpatient, and recurring services, focusing on areas requiring improvement, training, and retraining. Identify opportunities for resource optimization and continuous quality improvement (CQI). Coordinate and assist hospital and ancillary departments to support patients timely and accurately, including Admissions, Emergency Department, Accounts, Patient Status Changes, Surgical Accounts, Laboratory Accounts, Coumadin Accounts, Bed board, and Patient Placement. Actively identify risks and opportunities, develop action plans to mitigate root causes. Assist in evaluating reports, decisions, and results of the department relative to established goals. Take ownership of special projects, research data, and develop detailed action plans. Participate in problem identification and resolution, coordinate resolutions between appropriate parties. Assist with all Revenue Cycle Management processes, including problem situations and redesign staff workflows to improve outcomes. Ensure accurate review completion and follow‑up of charge capture. Recommend and implement corrective actions as appropriate. Educate patients, families, and hospital staff regarding verification status and insurance concerns. Monitor and complete various reports in a timely manner, including census reconciliation, patient status changes, and SMS account updates. Handle Case Management, patient changes, coding, HIM (Health Information Management), and PFS (Patient Financial Services) reports and emails requesting patient updates. Assist in the selection, training, and orientation of new hires; create online HR request forms for new and current staff; submit access requests for various computer systems and follow up to ensure receipt. Minimal Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Experience 3–4 years of healthcare experience performing admitting and registration functions required. 1–2 years of healthcare management experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications CHAA – Certified Healthcare Access Associate (within 1 year required). CHAM – Certified Healthcare Access Manager (within 1 year required). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of third‑party providers and cashiering functions. Basic computer skills. Good communication skills and ability to coordinate staffing schedule. Strong knowledge of patient registration, placement, insurance cash collections, and scheduling of assignments for employees.
