Quality Director – Job Description Samaritan is seeking a Quality Director for our growing community. Under the overall direction of the Chief of Patient Care Services, this full‑time salary exempt position is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, facilitating, and implementing organization‑wide quality improvement (QI) and risk‑management (RM) activities across Samaritan Hospital and Samaritan Clinic. The Director of Quality provides leadership related to operational excellence and is a key member of management, responsible for improving the patient, employee, physician, and student experience at Samaritan. Responsibilities Plan, develop, coordinate, facilitate, and implement organization‑wide quality improvement (QI) and risk management (RM) activities. Train, educate, and empower medical staff, leadership, and employees to incorporate principles of quality and process improvement, reduce waste, and manage risk. Lead initiatives that improve the “patient, employee, physician, and student experience.” Ensure compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations, including Department of Health, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other agencies. Provide leadership functions related to Samaritan’s pursuit of overall service and operational excellence. Valuing patients, families, employees, community, physicians, and partners. Active involvement in the planning process. Setting and achieving goals through strategic planning, departmental goal setting, monthly accountability meetings, and honoring vital time. Effectively oversee and direct day‑to‑day operations. Develop and foster an employer of choice culture. Budgeting, optimization, and benchmarking (Samaritan and industry). Reporting audit goals, resource management, fiscal stewardship, productivity maximization, cost containment, revenue generation, and monthly operational review. Regulatory compliance (DNV, DOH, Stark, etc.). Leading change by adherence to standardized improvement methods (e.g., PDSA, Lean/A3) and project management systems; surveying and improving employee and patient experience. Essential Skills and Experience Education Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Quality Assurance, Nursing, or related field (or equivalent experience). Master’s degree preferred. License Registered Nurse – current Washington State RN License. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred. Experience Seven (7) years of healthcare experience. Five (5) or more years developing, monitoring, facilitating, or presenting QI/Risk programs. Three (3) years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting. Skills Extensive experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and program management, preferably in a healthcare or medical education setting. Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and industry best practices. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team of instructional professionals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with stakeholders and fostering partnerships. Proficiency in QI/Risk technologies, systems, and multimedia tools. Ability to assess QI/Risk outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives; LEAN experience a plus. Grant writing and fundraising experience desirable. Certification in QI/Risk philosophies (LEAN/Six Sigma) is an advantage. Physical Requirements Work primarily indoors in a well‑lit, temperature‑controlled environment. Spending most time sitting at a desk; occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling up to 25 lbs. Ability to communicate verbally and/or in writing with physicians, nurses, health‑care professionals, patients, family, and the public. May occasionally teach or speak to large groups and must clearly convey information to the audience.
