We are seeking dependable and mechanically inclined Mechanical Assemblers to build, install, and inspect mechanical and electromechanical components used in industrial power equipment and related manufacturing systems.
The Mechanical Assembler will work from blueprints, bills of material, mechanical drawings, work orders, and written assembly instructions. This position requires experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and production documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable assembling large and small mechanical components in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assemble mechanical and electromechanical products, subassemblies, frames, cabinets, panels, enclosures, and equipment according to specifications.
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, engineering drawings, bills of material, work orders, diagrams, and written assembly instructions.
- Identify the correct parts, hardware, fasteners, and materials required for each assembly.
- Install brackets, panels, frames, housings, motors, fans, pumps, fittings, tubing, hardware, and other mechanical components.
- Perform mechanical fastening using bolts, nuts, screws, washers, rivets, clamps, and other approved hardware.
- Use hand and power tools, including drills, impact drivers, torque wrenches, sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, wrenches, grinders, and rivet tools.
- Drill, tap, ream, deburr, cut, and fit components as required by drawings and work instructions.
- Measure and verify components using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, gauges, squares, and other measuring instruments.
- Align, level, position, and secure components to ensure proper fit and operation.
- Apply the correct torque specifications to fasteners using calibrated torque tools.
- Assemble tubing, hoses, fittings, clamps, and related components when required.
- Assist with the installation of electrical components, wiring, wire harnesses, terminals, connectors, or control panels when instructed.
- Route and secure cables, wires, hoses, and tubing neatly according to drawings and quality requirements.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections to confirm that assemblies meet dimensional and quality specifications.
- Inspect parts and completed assemblies for damage, missing components, loose hardware, alignment issues, or workmanship defects.
- Report defective materials, drawing discrepancies, missing components, and quality concerns to the supervisor.
- Troubleshoot basic mechanical assembly problems and make approved adjustments or corrections.
- Assist with functional testing and final inspection of completed equipment.
- Rework or repair assemblies according to approved instructions.
- Complete production travelers, inspection documents, work orders, material forms, and other required records.
- Record completed quantities, labor hours, rejected parts, and production delays accurately.
- Move parts and completed assemblies safely through the production area.
- Maintain tools, equipment, hardware, and materials in an organized manner.
- Keep the workstation clean and free of safety hazards.
- Follow all company safety, quality, production, and housekeeping procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Work collaboratively with production, engineering, quality, electrical assembly, material handling, and management teams.
- Participate in cross-training and continuous-improvement activities.
- Perform other manufacturing and assembly duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Previous mechanical assembly, electromechanical assembly, machine building, equipment assembly, or related manufacturing experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on ability.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, drawings, bills of material, and work instructions.
- Experience using basic hand and power tools safely.
- Ability to identify common fasteners, hardware, mechanical components, and assembly materials.
- Basic knowledge of measurements, tolerances, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to use tape measures, calipers, torque wrenches, squares, and other measuring tools.
- Ability to follow detailed assembly sequences and quality requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and workmanship.
- Ability to recognize incorrect parts, missing hardware, and assembly defects.
- Ability to work independently after receiving instructions.
- Ability to communicate concerns and ask questions when specifications are unclear.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience assembling industrial machinery, electrical power equipment, control cabinets, generators, power supplies, load equipment, or related systems.
- Experience with mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies.
- Experience installing motors, fans, pumps, brackets, panels, fittings, or related components.
- Basic electrical assembly or wire-harness experience.
- Experience drilling, tapping, deburring, fitting, and modifying mechanical components.
- Familiarity with bills of material and production travelers.
- Experience using calibrated torque tools.
- Previous experience working in a quality-controlled or government-contract manufacturing environment.
- Forklift, crane, or material-handling experience is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in different physical positions.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
- Ability to grip and operate hand and power tools throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials or components weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around moving equipment, metal components, machinery, noise, and other typical manufacturing conditions.
- Ability to wear safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and other required personal protective equipment.
