About the Role

The RN House Supervisor serves as the clinical leader and operational authority on-site during designated shifts, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. This position provides leadership and oversight across two regional hospital campuses: Baylor Scott & White College Station and Baylor Scott & White Brenham.

As the primary nursing and operational leader during off-hours, the House Supervisor coordinates hospital-wide patient flow, staffing and resource allocation, clinical operations, and immediate problem resolution. This role works closely with charge nurses, physicians, department leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.

The position requires a highly collaborative and adaptable RN who is comfortable supporting a variety of clinical environments, from acute care services at the larger College Station campus to the critical access setting in Brenham.

Key Responsibilities

Staffing & Resource Allocation

• Assess and coordinate nursing staffing levels across both facilities based on patient acuity, census, staffing needs, and established guidelines.
• Collaborate with charge nurses to address unexpected call-outs and staffing changes.
• Reallocate nursing and support resources as needed to promote patient safety and appropriate workload distribution.
• Coordinate the use of float and agency staff based on operational needs.
• Promote equitable staffing and workload distribution while supporting staff well-being.

Bed Management & Patient Throughput

• Oversee patient placement, admissions, transfers, and discharges to support efficient use of available beds.
• Collaborate with the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, surgical services, and other departments to facilitate timely admissions and transfers.
• Monitor hospital capacity and proactively identify barriers to patient flow.
• Coordinate solutions to throughput challenges and minimize delays in patient placement and transfers.

Clinical Leadership & Patient Safety

• Serve as the on-site clinical leader and nursing resource during designated shifts.
• Provide support and guidance to nurses and other clinical team members when complex patient care situations arise.
• Monitor clinical operations to promote compliance with hospital policies, procedures, evidence-based practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Support a culture of safety for patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Respond to and coordinate clinical emergencies, security events, disasters, and other urgent situations.
• Communicate significant clinical, staffing, and operational issues to appropriate hospital leadership.

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with physicians, nursing leaders, charge nurses, ancillary departments, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain effective communication between departments and campuses to support continuity of care.
• Build positive working relationships with staff, patients, families, providers, and hospital leadership.
• Provide appropriate updates regarding critical patients, staffing concerns, unexpected events, and operational issues.
• Support nursing staff through clinical guidance, education, coaching, and problem-solving.

Operational & Administrative Support

• Manage and oversee daily hospital operations with an emphasis on safe, patient-centered care.
• Assist with implementation of policies, procedures, and initiatives that support organizational priorities.
• Apply Lean principles and continuous improvement practices to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
• Assist with staffing, equipment, and expense management within established guidelines.
• Prepare reports, maintain records, and communicate operational information as needed.
• Assist with maintaining equipment and supplies necessary for safe patient care.
• Support the evaluation, education, and development of nursing staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas or compact state equivalency.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical bedside nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex patient care situations and provide clinical guidance under pressure.
• Ability to effectively communicate with physicians, nurses, leadership, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Previous experience in an ICU and/or Emergency Department.
• Previous experience as a Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, or other nursing leadership role.
• Experience with hospital-wide staffing, patient placement, bed management, or patient throughput.
• Experience working across multiple clinical departments or hospital campuses.
• Experience in both acute care and critical access hospital environments.
