Licensed Practical Nurse 1 (WAE)

Division Within the Nursing and/or the Department at ELMHS, Located in Jackson, LA The Mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. Programs include inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long-term psychiatric care are coordinated with the total system of care in Louisiana. ELMHS is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the team in the Nursing Department as an LPN ! The selected candidate will administer and document medications and treatments, monitor and report patient status, implement physician orders, assist with medical care, supervise support staff, provide patient education, maintain medication safety and organization, communicate effectively during shift handoffs, and participate in ongoing staff training and professional development. Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state. Official job specifications for this role can be found. Job Duties Transcribe doctor's orders accurately and timely manner Prepare, administer, and document medications and treatments as ordered. Document patient's response to medication regime, PRN and stat dose administration, and provide patient teaching according to medications prescribed. Check and justify all medications from Pharmacy, and maintain a clean, orderly, and well-stocked medication room. Monitor patient status in milieu and assess patient behaviors. Report dangerous or inappropriate patient behaviors to RN supervisor. Provide written and verbal reports of ward/unit occurrences to RN and provide information for shift hand-off. Assist the Medical Doctor as needed and assure follow-up on orders are completed. Direct psychiatric aide staff and/or Correction Guard‑Therapeutic in performance of their duties and serve as resource for same. Participate in unit activities and provide educational information for patients. Attend monthly staff meetings, in-service trainings, mandatory education trainings and other educational programs.
