Position description

The Department of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary, part-time instructors to teach on-site and online courses in our Sales and Marketing programs for upcoming openings.

These programs help students and working professionals develop practical skills in digital marketing strategy, brand development, marketing analytics, advertising, sales, and customer engagement. Courses emphasize applied learning and real-world marketing scenarios that prepare students to develop, execute, and evaluate modern marketing campaigns. Instruction may also incorporate the use of modern marketing technologies and AI-assisted tools for campaign development, audience analysis, and content creation.

We seek instructors who bring substantial professional experience in areas such as:

• Digital marketing strategy and campaign management
• Brand development and public relations
• Marketing analytics and performance measurement
• Advertising and integrated marketing communications
• Sales leadership and business development
• Global or cross-cultural marketing

Ideal candidates are experienced practitioners who are interested in helping students develop practical skills relevant to today's evolving marketing landscape.

Instructor duties include but are not limited to:

• Prepare and deliver course materials aligned with program learning objectives.
• Design assessments and engaging learning activities that support student learning and skill development.
• Update course content periodically to reflect evolving industry practices and program feedback.
• Communicate course expectations, learning objectives, and grading policies clearly to students.
• Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely and professional manner.
• Employ inclusive teaching practices that support diverse learners, including students with documented accommodations.
• Evaluate student performance and assign grades based on established learning outcomes.
• Submit final grades within university timelines and address student inquiries regarding course evaluation as needed.
• Maintain student records in accordance with University policies.

Screening of applicants begins immediately after the Initial Review Date has passed; some appointments may begin as early as the 2026 summer quarter. The number of these temporary, part-time, non-tenure track, academic positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. Appointments are offered on a course-by-course basis, and appointment length is based upon course section schedule(s). Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, advertising, analytics, or a related discipline, or a relevant professional marketing credential.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in marketing, digital marketing, brand management, advertising, sales, marketing analytics, or a closely related field.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or a related discipline or 5+ years of professional marketing experience.
• Professional experience in one or more areas such as:
  
  • Digital marketing strategy
  • Brand management or public relations
  • Advertising and campaign development
  • Marketing analytics or performance measurement

• Prior teaching, training, or corporate facilitation experience.
• Experience using Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Moodle, or similar) or willingness to learn.
