Position Summary

The Research Assistant provides essential administrative and clinical support to the Research Department and participating physicians. This role is responsible for managing daily workflows and ensuring efficient operations within the department.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducts standardized visual acuity testing for research participants following study-specific protocols
• Schedule, confirm, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments
• Maintain and update patient records to ensure the highest quality of care
• Handle correspondence, manage calendars, and perform general office tasks to support the Research Department
• Coordinate patient travel, meal reimbursements, and other necessary arrangements
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information in compliance with confidentiality guidelines
• Communicate clearly and openly with potential and active study participants
• Ensure all necessary materials for each clinical trial are available for patient enrollment
• Uphold ethical research conduct by reporting any suspected misconduct to the Director
• Demonstrate strong organizational, decision-making, and time management skills in a fast-paced environment
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with clinical staff, key leaders, and colleagues
• Conduct patient interactions with compassion, empathy, and thoroughness
• Perform other duties as assigned

Work Relationship and Scope

The Research Assistant will report directly to the Director of Clinical Research.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Minimum of a High School Degree with related administrative and/or customer service experience
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, families and external individuals, groups and agencies
• Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to undertake new responsibilities as assigned
• Ability to stay calm in high pressure situations
• Ability to solve problems of a complex nature and is resourceful in finding answers to questions
• High degree of honesty, integrity and confidentiality
• The ability to show initiative, stay organized and assist with keeping Research records orderly
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail

Work Conditions

This position is part of the Research team at 800 N. First Street, Wausau, WI. Hours of work depend on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
