Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Overview SMMC is seeking a skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our clinic in the heart of Idaho's mountain country. Responsibilities Diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions, distinguishing between physiological and psychological cases. Assess patients’ mental and physical status based on presenting symptoms and complaints. Conduct individual, group, and family psychotherapy for those with chronic or acute mental disorders. Document medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes. Write and manage prescriptions for psychotropic medications as allowed by state regulations and collaborative practice agreements. Monitor patients’ medication usage and results. Evaluate patients’ behavior to formulate diagnoses or assess treatment effectiveness. Educate patients and family members about mental health, medical conditions, preventative health measures, medications, and treatment plans. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including psychiatrists, psychologists, and nursing staff to develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans. Qualifications Degree in Nursing and an advanced degree from an Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing (APPN) graduate program, including studies in basic science, advanced health assessment, brain and behavioral correlates, advanced psychopharmacology, and psychotherapeutic techniques. Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in psychiatric mental health advanced practice nursing. Documented compliance with state statutes and regulations governing advanced practice psychiatric mental health nursing. Ability to diagnose and treat simple to complex psychiatric and mental health problems, including serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and anxiety disorders. Strong skills in managing, coordinating, and evaluating patient and family care throughout the healthcare process. Experience working nights, weekends, and holidays; on‑call duty may be required. Proficiency in adhering to medications and therapies with complex protocols and handling sophisticated medical equipment. Compensation & Benefits Competitive starting bonus.
