Weighs and prepares samples for analysis by physical alteration methods and standard bench techniques such as drying, crushing and grinding or by chemical alteration methods such as combining the sample with a reagent. Prepares potentially bio-hazardous samples using appropriate universal precautions. Prepares reagents such as percent solutions, molar solutions, stains or spray reagents used to isolate the substance of interest from samples so the desired chemical test can be performed. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports laboratory functions that ensure accurate scientific preparation, evidence handling, and instrument upkeep. The role helps maintain smooth daily operations that support forensic work across the Bureau of Forensic Services. As a Chemistry Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Reagent Preparation: Prepare analytical reagents, standard solutions, clean glassware, and perform quality assurance tests
- Evidence Handling: Assist with receiving, storing, transferring, and returning physical evidence and communicate with submitting agencies
- Instrument Support: Calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
- Technical Assistance: Provide support to forensic scientists during bench analysis and routine lab procedures
- Inventory Control: Manage laboratory supplies, maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files, and oversee library reference materials
- Record Management: Prepare and archive laboratory case records and documentation
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Completion of 60 college credits including nine credits in chemistry.
