Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Expected night shift. Possibly varied night and day shifts based on department need. Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of four years Emergency Room Nurse experience required. License: State Registered Nurse license. Certifications: American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC certifications required. NRP certification preferred. Must-Have: - Minimum of four years Emergency Room Nurse experience. - State Registered Nurse license. - BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC certifications. Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse initiates a plan of care based on identified medical and nursing diagnoses. This plan is consistent with knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and human behavior. The nurse directs and coordinates with other departments and ancillary personnel to provide a safe environment and a high standard of quality care. The nurse provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process of planning, directing, and evaluating the nursing care. Effective communication with other shifts is essential for continuity of care. The nurse monitors satisfactory relations with other departments and nursing areas to promote a safe environment and a high standard of quality care. The nurse assesses and monitors the physical status of the patient. Awareness of patient treatment needs is necessary to correlate physician orders to diagnoses. Knowledge of laboratory work-up and values related to diagnoses is required. The nurse effectively admits, transfers, and discharges patients. Documentation of patient care is essential on clinical records, including initial assessments and pertinent changes, at least every two hours. The nurse anticipates potential problems and adapts to unit changes. Consistent adherence to established safety and infection control procedures is expected. The nurse intervenes in unsafe situations to ensure patient safety.
