Allied Health Professional DutiesThe Cincinnati VA Medical Center (CVAMC) is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati, OH and Fort Thomas, KY serving 15 counties in Southwest OH, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Bellevue, KY; Florence, KY; Lawrenceburg, IN; Hamilton, OH; Clermont County, OH, and Georgetown, OH. The CVAMC also supports two off main campus locations in the Cincinnati area via an Eye Center and Mental Health Outreach Community Division.Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties:Maintains a positive therapeutic relationship by displaying respect for human dignity with patients, families and/or significant others utilizing learned communication skills.Begins to utilize observation skills for data collection, reporting and recording patient/resident observations.Learns to perform aspects of nursing care to meet patient's needs for the following under close supervision and with direction/guidance from a preceptor:Personal HygienePhysical comfortActivity, Exercise, RestNutritionEliminationPrevention of Skin BreakdownRehabilitative Aspects of CareReports patient observations to the RN and/or other members of the treatment team.Organizes and obtains routine supplies and equipment.Assists with orienting patient/family to unit routines and policies.Utilizes principles of proper body mechanics and follows procedures for use of patient care equipment to prevent injury;Sets up patient care related equipment, such as hypothermia machines, oxygen delivery systems, portable and wall suction and assisting in monitoring proper functioning of equipment.Completes all mandatory training within appropriate timelines. Actively participates in annual competency assessment and validation.Reports patient status to the RN and documents pertinent observations in the medical record according to established procedures.Makes observations of subtle changes in resident's condition, i.e. behavior shifts, mood, skin coloring, appetite, etc. and takes action accordingly within the NA's assigned role.Responds appropriately to subtle patient changes by contacting the appropriate nursing personal.Works on small group activities with veterans/residents according to the patients/resident treatment plan.Completes all mandatory training within appropriate timelines. Actively participates in annual competency assessment and validation.Serves as the unit safe patient handling liaison.Serves as preceptor and mentor to other NAs.Recognizes the residents' autonomy and promotes independence by means of respect, limit setting and individualized treatment.
