Position description The Department of City and Regional Planning (DCRP) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position in urban planning with a focus on housing. Housing is a core focus in DCRP, reflected in the department's research, curriculum, and public engagement, and in its deep ties to the Terner Center for Housing Innovation, one of the nation's leading applied housing research organizations. We seek a colleague who will deepen Berkeley's leadership in housing research and help shape its future direction. Cities and regions worldwide face intensifying housing challenges, including affordability, climate change, displacement, and homelessness. We seek candidates whose research agenda has defined, or promises to define, important directions in housing scholarship, and whose work has received national and international recognition relative to their career stage. We welcome applications from scholars with interests and expertise in housing planning and policy across national and global contexts and using any of a number of research methods, in areas including but not limited to: zoning, land use, and housing supply; alternative tenure and ownership models; local, regional, state, and federal-level housing policy; governance of housing markets and planning; financialization of housing; housing instability, human health, and homelessness; the reshaping of housing needs by displacement, migration, and demographic shifts; the influence of emerging technologies on housing typologies and markets; and regulatory frameworks and policies influencing housing decarbonization. We are particularly interested in scholars using novel methods of data analysis and new data sources. This position will contribute to the department's excellence in teaching, research, and service. The position requires high research productivity alongside the ability and commitment to developing funded research projects that expand the reach and impact of the work. We welcome interdisciplinary, collaborative, and community-engaged approaches as well. The Department has 16 faculty members, is highly ranked nationally and is particularly well known for its MCP and PhD graduates. For more information about DCRP see Berkeley's Department of City & Regional Planning. The Department is committed to addressing the family needs of faculty, including dual career couples and single parents. We are also interested in candidates who have had non-traditional career paths or who have taken time off for family reasons, or who have achieved excellence in careers outside academia. For information about potential relocation to Berkeley, or career needs of accompanying partners and spouses, please visit the Office for Faculty Equity and Welfare.
