The role requires performing a wide variety of duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist relating to the preparation, distribution, and storage of pharmaceuticals for patients. Pharmacy Technicians work with computerized and automated systems for dispensing medications and preparing intravenous admixtures, as well as chemotherapy products. Team members are responsible for developing and promoting collaborative and collegial relationships with nurses, physicians, and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the pharmaceutical care of the patients. Once trained, be responsible for teaching and training other technicians and assisting in administrative duties.Job Description:ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, processes prescription orders in a timely manner, retrieves, counts, measures and prepares medications, solutions, ointments, and other compounds as directed.Responsible for filling, pickup and delivery of patient specific medication. This includes delivery of medications to appropriate areas in a timely manner so that patients receive the correct medications at the correct time as well as packing, processing, and tracking orders. Supports the service needs of the pharmacist relative to pharmacy services and maximizes patient care outcomes.Obtains information for new prescriptions and/or reconciliation purposes accurately and in accordance to the law.Refers all clinician and customer clinical questions to a pharmacist in a timely manner.Retrieves and files pharmacy prescriptions, records, and logs in the appropriate files and in accordance to law.Prepare, label, and deliver medications accurately and safely using systems like Pyxis and Epic.Maintain inventory, check expiration dates, and ensure proper storage of pharmaceuticals and supplies.Assist in receiving orders, compounding non-sterile mixtures, and pre-packaging medications.Handle hazardous medications and waste according to safety protocols and PPE guidelines.Support pharmacists with medication preparation, phone calls, and documentation.Conduct routine inspections of medication areas and participate in quality assurance activities.Train new technicians, pharmacy students and contribute to process improvements and departmental standards.If applicable, assists with enrollment process for any/all patient support programsParticipates in quality initiatives and process improvement efforts for prescription requests, prior authorizations, and education for providers, staff, and pharmacy updatesMaintains knowledge with appropriate department policies and procedures & assists with any review/revision(s).Supports change initiatives, by effectively adjusting work responsibilities due to new structures, processes, requirements or culture.Build a trusting and working relationship with patients to identify strengths and barriers to medication access with the goal of supporting an individualized, patient-centered care plan.Adapts to changes in the departmental needs including but not limited to: offering assistance to other team members, floating, adjusting assignments, working on compliance projects, etc.Other duties assignedQUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED:18 years or olderHigh School Diploma or EquivalentMust have one of the following a Massachusetts Pharmacy Tech Licenses, Pharmacy Trainee License, or Pharmacy Intern licenseCPhT or equivalent National Technician CertificationPREFFERED:Knowledge of Epic2-5 years of hospital setting experiencePrevious experience with Quality AssuranceKnowledge and experience with medication reconciliation and 340b compliance and policies.Previous experience with information systems, prescription prior authorizations, inventory management and prescription home delivery.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Consistently promote a culture of Wellbeing, Empathy, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Equity as outlined in the organization's WE CARE values.Demonstrated commitment and actions to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environmentMust be able to stand/walk for prolonged periods of timeABOUT USBeth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) places great value on being a diverse and inclusive community. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
