Engineering Manager, Software and Systems

Purpose of Position:The purpose of the Engineering Manager role is to build and lead a high-performing engineering team that delivers valuable, technically sound solutions for Hexagon Mining customers. The Engineering Manager role serves as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI), or as a delegated leader reporting to a DRI, for a defined product, platform, or technology area, with accountability for its long-term health and evolution. The role combines formal people management with technical leadership, including performance management, coaching, talent development, recruitment, succession planning, engineering governance, and team culture. Major Areas of Responsibility:The Engineering Manager is sufficiently familiar with the product, codebase, architecture, quality concerns, delivery constraints, and customer problems to guide technical direction, support design decisions, validate estimates, mentor contributors, and help the team deliver technically sound outcomes.The role collaborates with Product Management and other functions to understand customer and business problems, and deliver solutions that are valuable, usable, technically sound, maintainable, and supportable.The Engineering Manager has direct accountability for outcomes including:The successful delivery of agreed project outcomes, including scope, schedule, and qualityThe technical health, quality, governance, documentation, and development practices of the team's product, platform, or technology areaThe health, growth, and performance of the team and its individual contributorsThe Engineering Manager also contributes to:Strong working relationships between Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Sales, and other functionsA healthy engineering culture across teams and geographiesThe evolution of the Hexagon Mining technology platformCustomer outcomes and the commercial success of the products and solutions the team supportsKnowledge and Experience - Required:Strong written and oral English communication skillsEngineering leadership experience, such as people leadership, technical leadership, project leadership, or a combination of these5+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with complex, long-lived, customer-facing productsStrong technical knowledge of modern software engineering practices, architecture, design, testing, DevOps, and delivery processesKnowledge and Experience - Desired:Experience working with hybrid software-hardware systems, e.g. robotics, automotive, industrial automation, etc.Experience working with complex products, legacy systems, hardware and software integration, and/or large-scale technical debt reductionSpecialized technical knowledge in a relevant domain, e.g robotics, automotive, GNSS, optimization;, data science, or similar domainsFamiliarity with engineering delivery, quality, and organizational health metricsExperience leading organizational change and scaling engineering teamsHexagon is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
