POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Office Manager, physicians, and other clinical providers, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides high-quality, compassionate, and efficient patient care in accordance with established clinical policies, procedures, and protocols. The LPN supports providers and the clinical team through patient triage, care coordination, clinical services, and timely communication while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and a patient-centered approach.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays an important role in supporting our providers and ensuring patients receive timely, compassionate, and efficient care. This position requires strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to manage a busy patient call volume while effectively prioritizing patient needs.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Triage patients through a high-volume clinical call line, assess patient concerns within the scope of LPN practice, and appropriately route cases to physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) for review and direction.
- Monitor patient calls and messages throughout the day, checking messages at least 2–3 times daily and responding promptly and professionally.
- Communicate provider instructions, recommendations, and follow-up information to patients in a clear and timely manner.
- Call in or process prescription requests as directed and authorized by physicians or APPs and in accordance with established policies and applicable regulations.
- Assist with coordinating and scheduling urgent or same-day appointments for patients requiring prompt evaluation.
- Recognize concerns requiring immediate provider attention and appropriately escalate urgent patient needs.
- Administer medications, injections, treatments, and tests according to provider orders and established clinical protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians, APPs, RNs, clinical staff, patients, and families to support individualized plans of care and continuity of care.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, preventive care, and provider recommendations within the LPN's scope of practice.
- Accurately document patient communications, assessments, medication administration, treatments, test results, and other clinical interventions in the patient's medical record.
- Assist with reviewing and triaging test results and communicating provider instructions to patients as appropriate.
- Assist with rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, preparing patients for examinations and procedures, and assisting providers with procedures as needed.
- Provide support during urgent or emergency situations within the office according to established protocols.
- Maintain examination and treatment rooms by cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies as needed.
- Properly maintain and prepare clinical equipment and instruments according to established safety and infection-control procedures.
- Maintain effective communication with providers, clinical staff, and other departments to promote operational efficiency and continuity of patient care.
- Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, courtesy, and sensitivity when interacting with patients, families, providers, and coworkers.
- Effectively manage changing priorities, high patient volumes, and fluctuations in clinical demands while maintaining accuracy and quality of care.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new employees and assist with staff education as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement, utilization review, and other initiatives designed to improve patient care and clinical operations.
- Follow all established patient safety, confidentiality, infection-control, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintain required licensure and continuing education and remain current on applicable clinical practices and standards.
- Perform clinical procedures and other duties permitted within the LPN's scope of practice and in accordance with provider direction, organizational policy, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
- Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Georgia.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of related clinical experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a physician office, primary care, or outpatient setting preferred.
- Experience with patient triage, telephone communication, and care coordination is highly preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
