POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Manager is responsible for the daily presentation and functionality of Sunset Hills Country Club. This leader manages the facilities team and ensures every building and amenity is clean, safe, well maintained, and up to code. The Facilities Manager establishes, implements, and maintains a preventive maintenance program to minimize breakdowns and outages, routinely inspects the property to identify repair and maintenance needs, and makes sure issues are resolved quickly and correctly, by the in-house team or by outside contractors. The position works within, and is accountable to, an annual budget, reports to the General Manager and the Golf Course Superintendent, and partners with every department to deliver an exceptional experience for Members and their guests.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• High school diploma or GED required; trade certification or technical coursework a plus.
• 3+ years of facilities, building maintenance, or engineering experience at a private club, resort, hotel, or similar multi-use hospitality property, including at least 2 years supervising a team.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, flooring, and general building systems.
• Familiarity with pool mechanical and chemical systems, commercial kitchen equipment, and fitness equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of health, safety, fire, ADA, and building codes; Cal/OSHA experience preferred.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop a team.
• Experience managing contractors and vendors, including obtaining competitive bids and overseeing work.
• Ability to manage a budget and to work with financial information, invoices, and basic arithmetic.
• Prioritize, organize, and follow up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; diplomatic team player able to build relationships with Members, Employee Partners, and guests.
• Comfortable with work-order systems, email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Bilingual (English – Spanish) communication ability preferred.
• Valid California driver's license.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Team Oversight

• Directly supervise and lead the facilities team in daily operations.
• Recruit, schedule, train, coach, and develop facilities team members.
• Assign daily, weekly, and seasonal work; conduct performance evaluations and maintain departmental accountability.
• Update the General Manager and Golf Course Superintendent weekly on projects, concerns, issues, and Member feedback.

Cleanliness & Presentation

• Ensure all areas meet club standards for cleanliness and presentation, including the clubhouse, dining spaces, locker rooms, restrooms, fitness centers, pool deck, courts, practice facilities, cart barn, patios, and walkways.
• Oversee contracted and internal janitorial and custodial services to ensure contracts are fulfilled.
• Develop and execute daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning and deep-cleaning programs, including floor care and pressure washing.
• Conduct pre-event inspections and ensure readiness for Member use, tournaments, and club events.

Repair & Preventive Maintenance

• Walk the full property routinely to identify repair needs, safety hazards, and areas for improvement.
• Establish, implement, and maintain a preventive maintenance program, with maintenance and service records for all capital assets by department.
• Maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting and timers, doors and hardware, roofing, flooring, furniture, and other FF&E.
• Ensure the functionality of pool systems, tennis and pickleball courts, fitness equipment, and kitchen equipment.
• Prioritize, assign, and track work orders through to completion.
• Report landscaping and course-related issues to Golf Course Maintenance.

Safety & Code Compliance

• Keep all facilities compliant with health, safety, fire, ADA, and building codes; coordinate and document required inspections.
• Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA standards; train team members on chemical handling and workplace safety, and maintain SDS records.
• Lead the Club Safety Committee, organize internal safety audits, and maintain AEDs, security cameras, and door alarms.
• Follow up on incident reports, including those involving injury to Members, guests, or staff.

Vendors, Budget & Capital Planning

• Determine and schedule monthly contract services; follow up to confirm satisfactory completion and approve invoices.
• Maintain an approved vendor list accessible to the team when you are off shift.
• Manage the facilities budget, inventory, and supply purchasing; submit accounts payable and expense reports on time.
• Annually track capital needs using asset age, maintenance records, competitive bids, and projections, and recommend projects to the General Manager.

Operations Support

• Partner with the Golf, Tennis, Aquatics, Fitness, and Food & Beverage teams so maintenance work supports events and Member schedules.
• Assess power and setup needs for events; support setup and breakdown as needed.
• Respond to after-hours facility emergencies.
• Serve as an advocate and ambassador of the company, understanding the critical role that membership and exceeding expectations play in the success of the operation.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
• Ability to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in tight or elevated spaces.
• Ability to walk the full property and stand for long periods of time.
• Must remain composed and make sound decisions quickly in high-pressure situations.
• Flexible hours required, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call emergencies.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

• Power tools and hand tools; pressure washer; ladders and lifts.
• Office equipment: computer, work-order system, and telephone.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoor and outdoor work; exposure to heat, cold, rain, noise, dust, and maintenance chemicals; long hours sometimes required.
