Job Summary The Senior Safety Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and implementing the company's health, safety and environmental program. This position requires frequent interaction with all staff members and subcontractors to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. The role periodically back‑fills for Safety Managers. Salary Range $120,000 - $145,000 annually (companywide) Benefits Group medical, vision, and dental insurance, including a choice of two benefit plans – a PPO plan and a High Deductible/Health Savings Account plan with company contribution to HSA. Company‑paid short and long‑term disability plans, group life insurance, and AD&D plans. Untracked/unmeasured vacation. Annual discretionary bonus based on company profitability and manager's assessment of your performance. A 401(k) savings plan under which BNB matches the first 3 percent of your deferral with a 100% match and the next two percent with a 50% match for a total matching contribution of 4% of your pay. You are immediately 100% vested in all contributions (including BNB match). We provide both traditional (pre‑tax) and Roth (post‑tax) contribution options. Job Responsibilities Perform weekly safety audits to identify hazards and program deficiencies and assist with correction for each active project. Assist and participate in the planning and execution of preparatory meetings, as needed. Participate in the review of project Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), as needed. Assist the project team with initial safety start‑up, including review and input on project‑specific safety issues, e.g., hazardous materials, signage, safety supplies, etc. Participate in the planning and execution of daily jobsite inspection programs as needed. Participate in the planning and execution of weekly All‑hands safety meetings, as needed. Participate in the planning and execution of pre‑task planning meetings, as needed. Attend project weekly staff and subcontractor foreman meetings. Manage multiple project sites health, safety and environmental programs simultaneously. Conduct safety‑related training and orientations to BNBuilders field personnel and subcontractors as prescribed. Periodically assist the Safety Director/Regional Safety Manager with development and implementation of new or revised safety related standards and procedures. Maintain a working knowledge of regulatory standards as they apply to worker health, safety and environmental in the construction industry. Maintain computer skills consistent with the functions of the position. Respond to and investigate jobsite accidents and injuries, including all COVID‑19 related cases. Assist project teams and Safety Engineers with documentation and follow‑up reporting. Assist in preparing health, safety and environmental training presentations. Respond to and assist the project team with regulatory site visits. Any other duties as deemed necessary. Qualifications Must have a degree in Safety Management, Engineering or Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene and/or a minimum of 2 years of progressive construction safety experience. Must have Fed OSHA Construction 30‑Hour Certification or will have it within 30 days of hire. Must be able to demonstrate problem solving and teamwork skills. Have ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner. Demonstrate a knowledge base of OSHA, DOSH and NFPA standards. Show a proven track record of maintaining a comprehensive construction safety and health program with a proactive approach to safety management and accident prevention/reduction. Documented experience in conducting accident investigations/reporting and resolution coordination, performing job hazard and safety analysis, hazard communications and ensuring appropriate selection of abatement control measures. Knowledgeable of fall protection, hazardous energy controls, electrical safety, permit‑required confined spaces, trenching, cranes and rigging, scaffolding, demolition safety processes. Ability to work different shifts in a variety of weather conditions. Must have good organizational, leadership and communication skills, be self‑motivated and committed to the importance of a safety program. Must have the computer skills needed to maintain OSHA 300 logs, graph incident rates, and prepare PowerPoint training and safety meetings. Competent person training in the Focus Four, OSHA 500, Rigging, CHST Certification is a plus. Achieve and maintain the following certifications: EPA Asbestos Inspector/Contractor Supervisor. Competent Person Training Trench/Excavation, Fall Protection, Scaffolds. HAZWOPER 29 CFR 1910.120 with annual refresher. 40‑hour Industrial Hygiene Fundamentals course every five years. OSHA 500 training every four years. CPR/First Aid training as prescribed. Physical Demands Capable of traversing over construction‑type terrain when under development; moving through the construction site and the materials in place for use on the site; climbing ladders and temporary stairways; conducting visual inspections of quality of construction and materials being used in construction. Conduct jobsite walks to ensure successful project completion and to identify and eliminate safety hazards. Work Environment BNB believes in collaboration, team‑building, and a strong supervisor/employee relationship. The duties of this role are not performed in a remote capacity. Employees are expected to work in an office/job site setting. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at the job site. The noise level in the work environment and job site can be loud.
