About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Certification, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: Teamwork oriented, primary job commitment Description: Unit has 18 beds with fast track staffed with mid-level providers and support staff. Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS. Patient ratios are typically 1 to 4 unless caring for ICU patients, which would be 1 to 2. Electronic Medical Record system used is Cerner. Charge Nurse is a shift manager along with a resource nurse. Nurse aides are Emergency Department Technicians or aides from other units. Weekend requirements include 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Weekends for night shifts are Friday/Saturday and Saturday/Sunday for day shifts. Holiday requirement includes 1 major and 1 minor holiday. Scrub color is navy blue, including jackets and undershirts. Telemetry and ventilator support are available 24/7. Hospitalist or intensivist is in-house. Pharmacy services are operated 24/7 with a medication dispensing system. Nurses work 12-hour shifts with various start times. Self-scheduling is practiced, but schedules are finalized by management. Floating may occur between facilities, with notice given prior to shifts. Orientation includes floor-specific training at both campuses. Patient diagnoses include a higher proportion of homeless and indigent populations. Care for correctional patients is part of the patient mix. No cardiac patients are treated; they are stabilized and transferred to other facilities. Teamwork is essential, with an average of 100 patients treated daily. Cancellations can happen, but the hospital may pay for certain shifts in lieu of cancellation.
