Personal Financial Counselor; Lansing, MI

This position provides personal financial services at assigned military installations. The role delivers full‑breadth personal financial counseling services to service members and families, including one‑on‑one counseling, briefings, workshops and referrals. The counselor collaborates with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure the program meets the installation’s needs. Responsibilities Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families. Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences. Develop and distribute informational financial materials to service members and families. Coordinate, publicize, and provide a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops covering the military lifecycle (arrival, pre‑ and post‑deployment, career events, etc.), as outlined in DoDI 1322.34. Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars. Use virtual counseling or electronic communication (web‑based, secure online chat, video‑teleconference) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program Office. Manage duty‑to‑warn situations per DoD protocol. Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues on the installed. Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality‑improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required (or an associate degree + 4 years’ experience; or a high school diploma + 6 years’ experience). 3+ years of financial counseling experience. U.S. citizenship and fluent English (bilingual English/Spanish if required by contract). Adjudicated Tier 2 investigation and ability to pass the OCI process. Certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). Compensation Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500.
