Instructor, Patient Access SpecialistTeaches a full range of skills and knowledge for the certificate program in Comprehensive Patient Access Specialist. Prepares students to pass the Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) examination. Essential functions include:Deliver a comprehensive range of skills and knowledge required by the Workforce Career and Economic Development Division for the Health Industry Solutions, particularly within the Patient Access Specialist programProvide effective leadership, supervision, and control of classroom activities, ensuring a conducive learning environmentImplement the approved healthcare training curriculum to enhance the learning experience of program participantsPresent well-prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities that align with the course syllabus (including medical terminology, Electronic Health Records, Ucertify, Fundamentals of Billing/Reimbursement, Introduction of Patient Access and CHAA study guide) and school policiesMonitor attendance, maintain accurate, up-to-date records, and evaluate the educational performance of participants in accordance with college and department requirementsIdentify and refer participants to supportive services when necessary to enhance student successMaintain up-to-date knowledge of current changes and trends in the healthcare industryPromote students' development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, professionalism, customer service, computation, problem solving, and decision-makingProvide students with timely information and feedback on their academic progress regarding quizzes, tests, homework, and projectsFollow all College retention policies to ensure student attendancePerform other duties as assignedRequired qualifications education and experience/training include:Associate degreeMinimum of 5 years' experience as a Patient Access Specialist or Patient Service Representative in a hospital settingMust possess CHAA or CHAM certificationsMust be an approved proctor through NAHAMPrior classroom instruction and/or training experience in healthcareKnowledge, skills & abilities include:Ability to instruct through remote and in-person delivery using platforms like Blackboard, virtual classrooms, and online Learning Management SystemsDemonstrate intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPointAbility to respond appropriately to the needs of the community with sensitivityAbility to manage key metricsMust possess excellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environmentCredibility, presence, and excellent facilitation abilities are requiredPossess a thorough understanding of all College policies and actively participate in their implementation and enforcementCompetencies include:Service FocusCommunicationQuality of WorkTime UtilizationCollaborationAdaptabilityContinuous ImprovementPreferred qualifications include:Bachelor's DegreeDemonstrated basic Blackboard skills (equivalent program)Demonstrated experience with online instructionProfessional presentation skillsActive membership in the National Association of Healthcare Access ManagementPhysical demands/working conditions include:The work is performed in a normal, professional office or technical lab environmentThe work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilatedTypically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksiteSpecial note: This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following set rate of pay: $30.00/hour.
