Summary:
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for accurate and timely registration of the Hospital
patients. Required to keep abreast of changes in insurance plan requirements that pertain to the
referral management and point of service collection requirements. Communicate any changes to
Registration staff on the day, evening, and weekend shifts. Responsible for training new employees as
needed. The overall goal of this position is to ensure high quality service for patients and accuracy of
information during pre and post visits.

Responsibilities:

o Ensures the accuracy and completeness of daily registrations.
o Ensures high level of quality service provided to patients maintaining CHA services standards
and AIDET expectation
o Handles reports timeliness and accuracy.
o Support new employee training
o Acts as a resource to other Patient Access Staff when questions arise regarding aspects of
admitting and registration functions.
o Collect co-pays within the department.
o Secures and explains to the patient all necessary signatures, legal and financial including,
consent for treatment, consent to bill, and all other signatures required per contractual
agreements with third party payer and governmental agencies.
o Attends department team meetings
o Other duties as assigned.
o Perform special departmental projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education/Training: High School Diploma required; Associate Degree preferred.
Licensure: None required
Certifications: None required
Work Experience: Two years of patient access experience within a healthcare setting handling all
facets of registration, pre-registration, insurance verification, copayment determination and other
related services. An effective team player with strong interpersonal skills. Good oral and written skills.
Ability to interact and collaborate successfully with patients, nursing and professional staff is essential.
Ability to facilitate and resolve/de-escalate issues in a thoughtful, customer-oriented fashion. Medical
terminology, familiarity with third party plans, medical billing and collection required. Working
knowledge in Google Office and Microsoft Office (such as Word, Excel, etc) and other windows-based
computer applications such as web-based applications and research. Knowledge of Epic systems
including Grand Central, Prelude and EMR.
Physical Skills: Ability to be stationary for long amounts of time. Must be able to use a keyboard.
Ability to read standard computer monitors and paperwork. Ability to receive and answer incoming
telephone calls. Some light lifting duties. Ability to maneuver a registration cart while standing for long
amount of time.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment: Incandescent as well as florescent lighting. Close
quartered /sometimes shared workspace.
