Juvenile Supervision Officer

Juvenile's and Staffs safety, health, and general welfare are of primary concern. Guides, directs, supervises, and counsels juveniles on their behavior and attitudes. This position handles all aspects of admitting juveniles into the Justice Center. Also completes all aspects of the intake process, including, but not limited to, pat downs, strip searches and paperwork; while supervising all activities of the Juveniles. This includes: serving of meals, cleaning facility, and indoor/outdoor activities. Directs the activities of residents in all areas of therapeutic programming. Staff should be proficient in the English language and able to put essential communications into written form. Receive and screen youth from juvenile court and all approved law enforcement agencies and completes all necessary paperwork. Prevent or reduce the likelihood of escape through ability to control manipulative, aggressive or violent behavior. Administer medication and record on appropriate forms. Complete all daily reports and assignments Document youth behavior and progress Communicate through proper channels with internal and external customers including parents, outside providers, professional, and other department personnel. Adhere to all Juvenile Services Policies and Procedures and State TJJD standards and ethics at all times. Ability to work and shift/schedule assigned by the director or designee Work as part of the detention team Maintain appropriate training and certification in accordance with departmental and TJJD standards. Regular and consistent attendance is required. Must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule. All staff must have dependable transportation and a telephone/cell phone in the event Culver needs to contact them. Must be at least 21 years of age and of good moral character. Direct child care or aggressive youth care a plus.Operate computers; read and understand manuals, instructions. and documents; write reports; administer CPR; manage aggressive behavior in juveniles as per Handle With Care training; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and juveniles. Knowledge of BCJJC's Policy and Procedures Manual, as well as TJJD Standards to ensure compliance. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and proof of vehicle insurance. Must be able to maintain non-violent restraint, first aid, and CPR certifications. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, write or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend, crouch, and kneel; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift up to 20 pounds such as, stacks of records, or other similar objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. The ability to control violent behavior with non-violent physical restraint techniques is needed. While performing the responsibilities of this job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the employee will encounter.
