A Tennessee public high school math teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality mathematics instruction to students in grades 9 through 12 while strictly aligning lessons with the Tennessee Academic Standards for Mathematics. This role requires creating a supportive, structured classroom environment, tracking academic performance, and actively preparing students for state-mandated standardized assessments. Core Responsibilities Instructional Delivery : Plan and teach rigorous courses such as Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Calculus. Standards Alignment : Design curriculum and daily lesson plans targeting specific Tennessee State Board of Education objectives. Differentiated Learning : Adapt teaching methods to fit various learning styles, student capabilities, and individual needs. Student Assessment : Administer tests, evaluate progress, and prepare students for End-of-Course (EOC) state standardized testing. Classroom Management : Establish behavioral expectations, maintain safety, and foster a professional environment. Stakeholder Communication : Maintain regular verbal and written updates for parents regarding student progress and behavior. Professional Collaboration : Attend faculty meetings, participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and engage in state or district-mandated training. Job Requirements Education : Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Licensure : Valid Tennessee Educator Licensewith an active secondary mathematics endorsement (e.g., Mathematics 6-12). Alternative Pathways : Out-of-state transfers or individuals enrolled in an approved Tennessee alternative certification programare often considered. Typical Benefits and Contract Terms Contract Length : Typically 200 days per school year. Work Week : On-site work week (typically a 10-month contract of ~200 days) with requirements for after-school professional development or events. Ability to stand, walk, or lecture for extended periods; capacity to lift or carry instructional materials up to 50 pounds.
