Advanced Practice Provider PA/NP - Pediatrics

The nurse practitioner will participate in the diagnosis and management of pediatric patients referred to the UNC Pediatric Feeding Team, an interdisciplinary team composed of pediatric gastroenterology nurse practitioners, pediatric speech pathologists, and pediatric dietitians. The nurse practitioner will treat children with a range of simple to complex feeding and swallowing issues and will also address ongoing patient and family educational needs. The primary work locations are the Pediatric outpatient clinics at Blue Ridge in Raleigh and CP2 in Chapel Hill. Summary A Nurse Practitioner functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high‑quality, cost‑effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsibilities Clinical: Obtain relevant health and medical history, perform thorough physical assessment, review and interpret pertinent diagnostic tests, develop differential diagnoses, implement treatment plans including prescribing evidence‑based pharmacological agents, schedule follow‑up, maintain clear comprehensive records, keep up‑to‑date with general disease and pathologic processes, incorporate evidence‑based hospital initiatives, conduct preventive health screening, synthesize clinical data for accurate diagnoses, revise plans of care, prioritize work, maintain high productivity, lead or participate in productivity improvement projects, and perform medical procedures in line with guidelines and privileging. Education: Appropriately and professionally educate clients and families regarding medical conditions, treatment and follow‑up; collaborate with clinicians, staff and students; develop educational materials; provide education to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and students; attend education programs based on learning needs. Leadership: Provide instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and students through precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report and staff meetings; participate or develop community/network outreach programs; demonstrate understanding of healthcare contexts and improve delivery; lead or participate in systems improvements. Professional: Interact with patients and families respectfully, courteously and timely; collaborate with coworkers and team members; respond quickly to meet customer needs; accept responsibility for outcomes; share workload responsibility with the team. Quality/Research: Engage in continuous quality improvement, identify and implement improvement processes, consult with management on assessment, problem‑solving and decision‑making, evaluate clinical/system issues, lead interdisciplinary teams for integrated delivery, initiate and revise protocols or guidelines, and develop new clinical programs or services. Education Requirements Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant) in North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department. Professional Experience Requirements No prior experience required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements Demonstrated clinical competency. Effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills. Accurate documentation for billing.
