Full-time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent – Starting May 2026 – Location: The Hills, East Quogue, New York – The Hills is part of Discovery Land Company. Key Responsibilities Support overall maintenance of the golf course and related equipment. Oversee site supervision, scheduling, and project management, including tracking project schedules, managing subcontractor milestones, and responding to client inquiries/changes promptly. Participate in creating the Discovery Land Company experience for members and employees. Golf Course Construction and Development: Support site supervision on designated golf course construction projects; maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite; create professionalism, respect, timeliness, and accountability; maintain overall project schedules; manage self‑perform labor, outside labor, and subcontractors; quality control; request information and coordinate with the project manager and Golf Course Superintendent; track material procurement; ensure project completion; punch list and turnover; provide input on project schedules; input data into weekly reports; support development initiatives. Golf Course Maintenance and Operations Support: Manage all aspects of golf course maintenance (mowing, fertilization, pest control, irrigation); assist operation/maintenance of all grounds and common areas; work closely with other departments; oversee drainage, irrigation, and watering; develop and implement turf management programs; maintain playing conditions; supervise planting, fertilizing, and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and other facilities; recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate personnel; maintain accurate work records; plan professional development and training; conduct inspections and develop action plans; perform daily facility security checks; supervise equipment repair shop; maintain grounds and equipment; collaborate on course improvement projects; keep records of maintenance activity, expenses, and inventory; ensure proper chemical handling and compliance; enforce safety program; prepare and revise grounds manual; keep members informed of maintenance activities; attend conferences, workshops; attend staff and management meetings. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in turf management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field (preferred). Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Strong knowledge of turfgrass species, irrigation systems, and agronomy practices. Well versed in golf course construction and management of construction personnel. Valid driver’s license and pesticide applicator’s license (or ability to obtain). Additional Requirements Positive attitude, professional demeanor, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; may require long hours. Ability to work in a team environment and remain calm and focused during busy times. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred. Physical demands: work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions; stand, walk, and move for periods greater than eight (8) hours; lift and carry items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
