Supervisory Police Position
This is a highly responsible supervisory position requiring managerial, administrative and operational acumen.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as uniformed, platoon commander and oversee all police operations on a specific platoon, including personnel management of staff. Plans, directs, and organizes the performance and assignment of officers on assigned tour. Conduct in-service training as needed. Manage all members to ensure compliance with department policies, rules, and regulations. Issue disciplinary action to subordinates, as appropriate. Ensure important or actionable information is relayed to the outgoing platoon or appropriate personnel as required. Makes recommendations for actions or strategies to address concerns or deficiencies pertaining to operational matters. Conduct investigations and submit reports as required. Make certain all vehicles are inspected for operational efficiency, cleanliness, and serviceability. Visit and inspect areas throughout the Co-Op City campus during tour of duty. Coordinate and communicate with other agencies as required during routine encounters and emergency incidents including NYPD, NYFD, EMS State Police, etc. Address urgent matters in a timely manner. Communicates corporate and department policy to staff. Respond to all serious incidents and direct resources as required. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
HS Diploma/GED or equivalent required. Associates Degree or higher, in the field of law enforcement or equivalent experience preferred, but not mandatory. Advanced Degree, a plus.
Work Experience and Minimum Requirements
Prior supervisory experience in a police or public safety organization serving a large, diverse, and urban community. Prior investigatory experience in a law enforcement agency serving a large, diverse and urban community. Must possess effective written/oral communication skills. Must be able to work mandatory overtime, as well as varied work schedules based on the needs of the department. Ability to secure and retain a New York State Police Department issued Firearms Business Carry Permit. Must have working knowledge Microsoft Office software and applications. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver's license. At least one (1) year experience with exemplary performance in the Department of Public Safety or similar organization. Must be able to multitask in a fast paced environment and perform multifunctional assignments. Bilingual, is a plus.
Testing
Drug screening, Medical Review, and Psychological Examination, as permitted by, and consistent with, applicable law.
Physical Requirements
Persons performing service in this position classification may routinely exert up to 80 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work will involve regular walking or standing for extended periods of time. It may involve stooping or bending. Handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a person to perform the essential functions of the job.

Hours
Full-time, 40 hours per week. Selected candidate may be assigned to varying tours of duty based on operational needs, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
