Billing Technician

Assist Billing Supervisor in preparation and submission of third-party claims utilizing automated billing service programs and software. This position is under the direct supervision of the Billing Supervisor within the Pine Ridge Service Unit, Business Office. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-04: One (1) year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-4 level. OR Two (2) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. GS-05: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: submittal of claims to third party payers, follow-up to and analyze claims rejected, review coding narratives, review applicable forms for accuracy, and timely posting of payments and nonpayment's. OR Four (4) years of education above the high school level. OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. GS-06: One (1) year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: use of billing systems to coordinate patients benefits, verification billing data, claims processing, accounts receivable, third party billing, and timely posting of payments, adjustments, and generate appeals and denial correspondence. GS-07: One (1) year of full‑time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: accurately submit third part claims, technical operations of a financial billing system for point of sales, accounts receivable, data verification, research rejected claims and troubleshoot transactions for timely submittal, audit ICD -10 and other coding narratives, audit patient medical record for condition and diagnosis, and provide technical guidance to counterparts, medical staff, and stakeholders. OR Completed 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of specialized experience and graduate education that meets 100 percent of the qualification requirements for this position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
