About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Emergency Room License: Active Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC (preferred), ENPC (preferred) Must-Have: - 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience - Experience boarding patients in the Emergency Room - Ability to float to Medical Surgical and Critical Care Units as needed - Proficient in starting IVs and administering medications - Experience working with Cerner within the last year - Flexible and willing to orient for specified shifts Description: This position is not a typical Emergency Room RN role. There will be a requirement to board patients and float to Medical Surgical and Critical Care Units as needed. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of recent Emergency Room experience. Experience in Critical Care and Medical Surgical units is necessary. Candidates must follow workflow to cover gaps in service delivery. Physically, candidates will be caring for patients within a 26-bed Emergency Room with 3 trauma bays. The patient volume averages around 60 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Responsibilities will include triaging patients when necessary. Nurses will manage their own Emergency Room holds, which are intermixed within the Emergency Room. There is one designated room for lower ligature risk with security features for patient safety. In-house security is available 24/7. Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, altered mental status, chest pain, and various pediatric to geriatric emergencies. Experience in IV therapy and rhythm interpretation is expected. Nurses will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes MDs, DOs, PAs, and NPs. The charge nurse is present 24/7 and takes patients as needed. A house supervisor is available during specific hours. Support staff includes Medics and Patient Care Technicians who assist with patient care tasks. Respiratory Therapists are available in-house around the clock to assist with various treatments. Nursing staff performs the majority of lab draws, with laboratory support when necessary. Self-scheduling is in effect, and managers will balance schedules based on staffing needs. Every third weekend shift is required, and flexibility for holiday shifts is expected. Scrub color is navy blue, with specific dress code guidelines regarding piercings and tattoos. It is essential to communicate any time-off requests in advance. Punctuality and commitment to fulfilling the contract are crucial for this position.
