Staff Nurse

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. They prevent illness and injury and alleviate suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a key responsibility. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This is in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, policies, and the Code of Ethics for Nurses. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment focused on patient-centered care. They assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients. They serve as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse when designated. The RN considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact. They educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management. Utilizing a working knowledge of pharmacology, they safely administer medications per policy. They share responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization. Compliance with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and policies is essential. Active participation in and support of nursing governance and improvement initiatives is required. The RN engages in professional development, continuing education, and completes mandatory training. They integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is part of the role. The RN may perform duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned. Participation in the Clinical Ladder Program is encouraged as knowledge and expertise develop. Other duties may be assigned as required.
