Juvenile Justice Specialist Trainee - South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit, Franklin County

Position Overview Join the South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit as a Juvenile Justice Specialist Trainee with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services. This opportunity allows you to develop skills while helping young people make better choices. Successful completion of the six‑month training program leads to a promotion to Juvenile Justice Specialist and an increase in salary. Description of Work Attend formal classroom sessions and complete assigned learning activities. Apply new techniques in communication, supervision, and youth engagement. Follow procedures for security, crisis response, and safe facility operations. Demonstrate ethical behavior and positive interactions with youth and staff. Work under supervision while receiving feedback to improve performance. Work Schedule and Additional Information Full‑time employment. Starting salary: $20.80 per hour (after six months, $27.15 per hour). Second and third shifts receive differential pay. Shift work in a 24/7/365 operation; shifts include 7:00‑3:00, 3:00‑11:00, and 11:00‑7:00 with 5‑day week and 2 days off. Travel, overtime, voluntary and mandatory as needed. Must be willing to work in South Mountain, PA, Franklin County. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years old. PA residency requirement currently waived. Must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal and Eligibility Requirements Position governed by Child Protective Services Law. Conditional offer requires submission of criminal history records (PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, FBI fingerprint clearance).
