Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Oncology Acute night shift position requiring IV chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration experience and ONS/ONCC certification.

Details

• Work in a 19-bed all-private-room Oncology Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Care for patients with all types of cancer (most commonly Lymphoma and Leukemia), hematology, radiation oncology, and Gyn/Onc diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights, varying to 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights based on census, with 1:1 staffing for specific medications/therapies
• Administer IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens, including handling precautions and PPE use, and monitor for medication side effects
• RNs are not required to titrate drips; common set-rate drips include heparin and 24-hour chemotherapy bags such as Methotrexate
• Uses Epic Beacon for EMR documentation
• 12-hour night shifts with start times of 1900, though assignment may include a mix of day and night shifts based on unit needs
• Self-scheduling within a 6-week timeframe, coordinated with the unit's scheduling coordinator
• Required to work every other weekend (Fri/Sat for nights) and every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Travelers are included in the unit's float rotation, which may include floating to other Gen Med level of care units for 4+ hour periods
• Charge RN and House Supervisor are available 24/7, with Charge RN occasionally taking a patient assignment
• PCTs support the unit with 3 PCTs on day shift and 2 on night shift at full census
• House-wide telemetry (Philips monitors) is utilized; RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips
• RT manages CPAP and BiPAP equipment; RNs assist with CPAP but only manage BiPAP if it is the patient's home sleep regimen

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required
• Experience administering IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy medications required
• Experience with chemotherapy handling precautions and PPE use required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to oncology, hematology, and Gyn/Onc patients including chemotherapy and immunotherapy administration
• Unit/department-specific orientation runs 24-36 hours
• No specific scrub color or dress code required
• Local candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for local pay rates
• No radius rule restricts eligibility for this position
• Facility is a Drug-Free Campus requiring a negative drug screen across all panels
• COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
