This is a formal Air Force intern position, established under the PALACE ACQUIRE (PAQ) program; it is centrally managed and funded by the Air Force Personnel Center, Civilian Career Management Directorate and administered by the Weather Career Program, HQ AFPC/DPZ, 550 C Street, Randolph AFB Texas 78150. Duties In a developmental capacity serve as a professional meteorologist in the organization for meteorological issues affecting the organization’s ability to accomplish its mission. Perform recurring developmental work assignments Participate in special initiatives, studies and projects Participate in meetings, assist with presentations and prepare routine correspondence Prepare written correspondence and other documentation Requirements Conditions of employment. U.S. Citizenship Required Males must be registered for Selective Service, see A security clearance may be required PCS expenses, if authorized, will be paid in accordance with JTR and Air Force Regulations This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays Employee must maintain current certifications Disclosure of Political Appointments Student Loan Repayment may be authorized Recruitment Incentive may be authorized for this position Leave accrual may be authorized upon request Two‑year formal training program for a Master’s degree and a three‑year formal training program for a Bachelor’s degree. Total salary varies depending on location of position. Successful completion of all training and regulatory requirements as identified in the applicable training plan. Qualifications Any individual who completed all requirements for a bachelor, masters or doctorate degree from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years or will complete these requirements by 31 May 2026 meets the basic requirement to apply for the Recent Graduate Program; or any veteran released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years, but due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying for a recent graduate position during any portion of the two‑year eligibility period following completion of the applicable degree, and not more than six years have transpired since completing the requirements for the degree. Qualified candidates will be considered in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Pathways Guidelines. Education Provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Degree: meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science major that included: At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology or atmospheric science, including a minimum of: Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale) Three semester hours of physical meteorology Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions. Three semester hours of ordinary differential equations. At least nine semester hours of coursework appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science. * There is a prerequisite or corequisite of calculus for coursework in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations. Calculus courses must be appropriate for a physical science major. Please submit copies of all transcripts to include transferred hours. Official copies are not required at time of application; if selected, you will be required to provide official copies of all transcripts. Degree audits are not accepted. IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: If the position has a positive degree requirement or education forms the basis for qualifications, you must submit transcripts with the application. Official transcripts are not required at the time of application; however, if the position has a positive degree requirement, qualifying based on education alone or in combination with experience, transcripts must be verified prior to appointment. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence. Additional Information & Training Program The PALACE Acquire Program offers a 3‑year formal training program plan for Bachelor degree holders and a 2‑year formal training plan for Master degree holders, with yearly salary increases. It provides both personal and professional growth opportunities and involves training in meteorology, leadership, and career development. Participant Agreement Orientation program Mentorship throughout the Program Individual Training & Development Plan to assist with career planning, professional development, and training activities At least 40 hours of formal, interactive training each year of the Program Opportunity for career advancement After Program Completion Recent Graduates who are selected for conversion must have completed all requirements of the program successfully Demonstrated successful job performance consistent with the applicable performance appraisal program Met the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualification standard for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted Note: Eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that the Department of the Air Force will offer conversion.
