Phlebotomist 5275 Location: San Diego CA Schedule: 8am-5pm Tuesday to Saturday Projected duration: 3 months Job code: CVDJP00035275 Compensation: $23.00 per hour Available benefits Experience with drawing blood from pediatric and geriatric patients Proficiency in performing challenging venipuncture Overview The primary responsibility of a phlebotomist is to support in executing various assigned tasks, problem-solving, providing training, and suggesting workflow improvements. Role Responsibilities Performing blood draws, labeling samples, centrifuging specimens, documenting maintenance data and sterilization, updating patient records, etc. Collecting and storing samples following established protocols. Clearly and courteously explaining the venipuncture (blood collection) process and/or other specimen collection procedures (e.g. urine or fecal) when necessary. Demonstrating proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Ensuring complete understanding of all physician orders. Matching laboratory requisition forms to sample tubes. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as per test requirements. Verifying all test requisitions or computer labels against the script for accuracy. Packaging specimens for transportation. Properly storing samples at the required temperature, placing them in suitable collection containers/tubes, labeling accurately, and following specified transport procedures to preserve sample integrity. Adhering to OSHA and DEP regulations. Participating in annual departmental trainings. Answering phone calls, interpreting laboratory results to address inquiries. Minimum Requirements Valid Phlebotomy certification for the relevant state, where mandated. At least 6 months of experience conducting venipunctures in a high-volume laboratory or hospital environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. 1-4 years of experience
