Job Description Operational Accountant Reports To Finance Manager / Financial Controller Job Summary The Operational Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business by ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining accounting records, monitoring operational costs, and improving financial processes. This role works closely with operational departments to provide financial analysis, budgeting support, and performance insights that drive informed business decisions. The ideal candidate combines strong accounting expertise with a proactive, analytical approach to business operations and process improvement. Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Reporting Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards and company policies. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes. Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and balance sheet accounts. Prepare journal entries and ensure accurate posting of financial transactions. Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports. Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting procedures. Operational Finance Support Monitor operational costs and identify variances against budgets and forecasts. Analyze departmental expenses and provide recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements. Partner with operational teams to understand key business drivers and financial impacts. Support inventory accounting, fixed asset management, and cost allocation processes where applicable. Track and report key operational and financial performance indicators. Budgeting & Forecasting Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts. Analyze actual performance against budget and forecast targets. Prepare variance analyses and communicate findings to management. Support financial planning initiatives and business decision‑making. Process Improvement & Compliance Identify opportunities to streamline accounting and operational processes. Support the implementation of financial systems, controls, and reporting tools. Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards. Assist with internal and external audits by preparing supporting documentation. Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with operations, procurement, payroll, and other business functions. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational decision-making. Respond to management inquiries regarding financial performance and operational metrics. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, CMA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred. Experience 3-5 years of accounting or operational finance experience. Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or service‑based environment is an advantage. Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools preferred. Technical Skills Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with SAP Business One Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Competencies Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
