Position: Senior Supplier Quality Engineer

Location: Etters, PA (global functional leadership across Nantong, Vietnam, and Mexicali)

Amphenol is seeking a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer (SSQE) to lead and coordinate supplier quality activities across the global manufacturing footprint, including Etters, Nantong, Vietnam, and Mexicali.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role serves as the global subject matter expert for supplier quality management and is accountable for supplier qualification, development, audits, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) approvals, risk management, incoming quality performance, and supplier continuous improvement.

The SSQE provides functional leadership to regional Supplier Quality Engineers and Quality Engineers supporting supplier activities. The role establishes standardized global processes, supplier performance metrics, audit programs, governance, and escalation practices while partnering with Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, NPI, Program Management, and Supplier Development teams to ensure suppliers meet quality, delivery, cost, reliability, and applicable regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Senior Supplier Quality Leadership

• Functionally lead and coordinate Supplier Quality Engineers and Quality Engineers supporting supplier activities in Nantong, Vietnam, Mexicali, and Valley Green
• Establish global supplier quality objectives, goals, governance, reporting, and improvement plans aligned with business and customer requirements
• Develop, deploy, and maintain standardized global supplier quality procedures, tools, templates, metrics, audit practices, and escalation criteria
• Facilitate monthly global supplier quality reviews covering performance, risks, corrective actions, capacity, readiness, and improvement priorities
• Coach and mentor regional quality personnel, promote cross-site consistency, and support capability development without relying on direct administrative authority
• Escalate critical supplier quality, delivery, reliability, and compliance risks to appropriate leadership with fact-based recommendations

Supplier Qualification, APQP, and Launch Readiness

• Lead supplier selection and qualification activities through risk assessments, technical reviews, quality system assessments, audits, and capability evaluations
• Lead supplier APQP execution and PPAP review and approval, including process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, MSA, capability studies, validation evidence, and change-control requirements
• Partner with Purchasing, Engineering, NPI, Program Management, and Operations to define supplier quality deliverables, ownership, timing, and readiness criteria for development projects and production launches
• Assess supplier process feasibility, capacity, manufacturability, metrology, inspection methods, workmanship standards, and product and process risks before release or ramp
• Ensure supplier-related critical-to-function and critical-to-quality characteristics are identified, controlled, measured, and supported by capable measurement systems and processes

Supplier Performance, Corrective Action, and Development

• Establish and maintain supplier performance scorecards and metrics for quality, delivery, responsiveness, audit results, corrective action effectiveness, and continuous improvement
• Monitor incoming quality and supplier performance trends; identify systemic issues and initiate containment, escalation, corrective action, or supplier development as appropriate
• Lead or facilitate supplier corrective actions using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, DMAIC, risk assessment, and other structured problem-solving methods
• Validate root cause, corrective action implementation, effectiveness, recurrence prevention, and closure of supplier-related nonconformances
• Lead supplier development initiatives using audits, Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, capability analysis, and process improvement methods
• Support supplier changes, transfers, deviations, concessions, and product disposition decisions through documented risk-based evaluation

Audits, Compliance, and Cross-Functional Support

• Develop and execute risk-based supplier audit plans and follow-up activities, including closure and verification of audit findings
• Ensure suppliers maintain required documentation and comply with drawings, specifications, quality agreements, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Interface with suppliers, site quality, process engineering, product engineering, manufacturing, and other functions to achieve capability and documentation compliance
• Analyze supplier and manufacturing data, including defects, yield, cycle time, throughput, capability, and measurement performance, to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities
• Prepare and present supplier quality status, risks, decisions, and recovery plans to site, global, and executive stakeholders
• Travel internationally to support supplier qualification, audits, development, issue resolution, product launches, and process ramps

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or six to eight years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Progressive experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, product development, or a related quality engineering role in a global manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated experience leading supplier qualifications, supplier audits, APQP, PPAP, corrective actions, supplier development, and launch-readiness activities
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical procedures, quality system requirements, and applicable governmental or regulatory requirements
• Ability to write clear reports, business correspondence, procedures, audit findings, quality plans, and executive-level supplier status updates
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from suppliers, customers, managers, engineers, purchasing teams, and manufacturing representatives
• Demonstrated ability to operate with minimal supervision, lead through influence across cultures and sites, manage competing priorities, and provide timely status and risk escalation
• Demonstrated leadership competencies, including global team leadership, cross-cultural communication, executive stakeholder management, and sound, risk-based judgment.
• Ability to travel internationally to support suppliers, manufacturing sites, product development, and process ramps

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:

• Supplier APQP and PPAP; supplier qualification and development; supplier auditing; PFMEA and Control Plans; Statistical Process Control (SPC); Measurement System Analysis (MSA); capability analysis; root cause analysis and 8D; risk management; reliability concepts; Lean manufacturing; and Six Sigma
• Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), inspection planning, metrology, First Article Inspection (FAI), Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility, and statistical analysis
• Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and SharePoint; statistical analysis software such as Minitab
