Position Summary
In an effort to strengthen the recruitment and retention of AmeriCorps EXL members, the Recruitment Leader will support expanding and building the program’s capacity to effectively recruit, engage, and retain high-quality AmeriCorps Members across Sonoma County school sites.
The Recruitment Leader will serve alongside the AmeriCorps leadership team to expand community outreach, strengthen social media presence through active posting and coordination with partner agencies, and promote the transformational impact of the AmeriCorps EXL program and National Service.
Identifying and implementing effective recruitment strategies to increase the capacity of the AmeriCorps EXL program is a significant component of this role, as are supporting retention efforts, planning recruitment events, and helping strengthen partnerships and community awareness surrounding the program.
The Recruitment Leader will provide capacity-building support to the AmeriCorps EXL team through recruitment, outreach, relationship-building, and engagement efforts designed to support the following outcomes:
Increase in AmeriCorps member applications received
Increase in AmeriCorps member slots filled
Increase in AmeriCorps member retention and engagement
Program Overview
The goal of the AmeriCorps EXL program is to provide comprehensive support to students through tutoring, mentoring, social-emotional learning, and expanded learning opportunities. The program applies a layered support model implemented by AmeriCorps Mentors and Tutors serving K–8 students throughout Napa and Sonoma County school sites.
All students benefit from organized collaborative games, conflict resolution support, and positive engagement during recess and lunch. Students needing additional support may be assigned targeted tutoring services in literacy and/or math or mentoring services focused on social-emotional learning.
Expanded Learning (EXL) is one of two AmeriCorps programs within the Napa County Office of Education (NCOE). Essential AmeriCorps Duties
All Recruitment Leader activities will collectively raise awareness of national service opportunities while strengthening the program’s ability to recruit and retain quality AmeriCorps Members. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Become well-versed in the purpose, structure, and recruitment timelines of the AmeriCorps EXL program
Gather and maintain updated information regarding application processes, timelines, and recruitment needs
Support the development and implementation of recruitment action plans and outreach strategies
Develop and foster partnerships that increase outreach to potential AmeriCorps Members
Expand community outreach through presentations, college outreach, career fairs, and recruitment events
Build social media presence through active posting, content creation, and coordination with partner agencies
Develop recruitment and marketing materials to promote the program
Track and maintain recruitment and outreach data regarding project outcomes
Coordinate with regional AmeriCorps programs and partners to connect individuals to service opportunities
Support strategies that keep AmeriCorps alumni engaged in promoting National Service
Participate in weekly check-ins and planning meetings with program staff
Participate in all required trainings, development opportunities, statewide trainings, and AmeriCorps events
Participate in California Days of Action and National Service Days throughout the service term
Service Commitment
Part-time, 10-month commitment serving a minimum of 900 hours
Service Term: September 2026 – June 2027
Members must serve Monday–Friday in either the AM or PM service commitment. Specific service hours are listed above, and may include some evenings or weekends depending on recruitment events and program needs
Service hours are expected to occur primarily in-person at school sites, community locations, and NCOE offices
Members are required to live within a reasonable commuting distance of assigned service locations
All service activities must align with approved AmeriCorps service activities and guidelines
Training hours will not exceed AmeriCorps allowable limits
Areas of Responsibility
Positively represent the AmeriCorps EXL program in a variety of settings including recruitment events, trainings, school sites, and community events
Assist with community-building activities connected to NCOE Community Programs
Create and maintain positive relationships with staff, school partners, and community organizations
Submit required program documentation and service reflections throughout the service term
Maintain regular, timely attendance and professional communication
Duties may include both indoor and outdoor service activities, regional travel, and occasional evening/weekend events
Demonstrate a commitment to safety and compliance with all program policies and procedures

Qualifications & Characteristics
Must be at least 18 years of age (17 with parental approval)
Clear criminal background check (DOJ, FBI, and National Sex Offender Public Database)
Submit current, clear TB (tuberculosis) test
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience preferred
Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
Organized, responsible, adaptable, motivated, and professional
Ability to accept and incorporate constructive feedback from leaders and program staff
Strong standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
